Families from rich countries could sponsor families from poor ones, Pope Benedict XVI suggested Saturday at a gathering of around 350,000 people at a park just north of Milan.
The pope was speaking at the latest event in a three-day visit to Milan, part of the Church-sponsored World Meeting of Families, a relaxed and festive setting that has been a welcome distraction from recent crises at the Vatican. Speaking without notes before an enthusiastic crowd at the Bresso park, the pope proposed a new twist to the system under which cities in different countries "twin" with each other.
His suggestion that families from rich countries could act as sponsors for families from poorer ones drew enthusiastic applause from his audience. One could have "a family in France, in Germany in Italy, talking responibility for helping" another family in need, said the pope.

You could confiscate ALL the income of EVERY person in the US, and it would still not be enough to fix the Third World.
Looks like the anti-Catholic talking-points memo got around.
Most rich families I know are quite generous to others that are out of pocket. I live in a smaller town where the poor and the rich pretty much are next door neighbors.
That being said, I know a lot of people that are rich but have little money, and I know of people who have a lot of money and are quite poor.
It is really a crying shame that so many of you [enter your religion here] defenders think that anyone who utters anything questionable to your sensibilities whatsoever in the slightest sense think that they are members of some cabal aching to dethrone you.
Talking Points? What the hell are your talking about, fella? Last time I looked this thread showed up in News/Activism, it is neither news, nor is it activism, unless you consider ranging outside of the Religion Forum to defend the ‘faith’ as you misperceive it, activism.
However,I did go to New Advent and truly have no idea why you sent me there, there wasn't anything on the home page that reflected your citation. I did not go to the archives but I am sure that it would not be there either, especially as quoted.
It doesn't seem to corroborate your misinformation or the original poster to whom I responded.
Have a nice Sunday and a happy, healthy, holy year!!
Just to clarify - Popes can be infallible if they and the Holy Spirit want them to be infallible. For example, the Pope was infallible when he issued documents in conjunction with all of the Bishops in the 1960s (Vatican II). Also the pope was infallible when he declared about 60 years ago that Mary was Assumed into Heaven.
But, yes, a Pope speaking in an address or even in written documents may be fallible. There is no infallibility around statements partially addressing “green” theory.
After all of the arguing, I am still hoping some wealthy Catholic family will listen to the Pope and agree to subsidize me a bit. Thanks.
You might want to read the original text of what he said which usually gets spun so bad it makes what our MSM does to W look like a worthless Looney Tunes episode.
