Caracass Gun shops were closed permanently on Friday morning in the aftermath of Hugo Chavezs governments decision to ban the sale of guns and ammunition. This comes after Venezuela in 2010 had one of the highest murder rates in the world.
Venezuelas gun ban comes on the heels of a new governmental anti-crime commission which is looking at other methods to curtail violence. One of these proposals is a weapons exchange program in which the government would give money in return for firearms.
But members of the opposition believe this policy rewards the criminals
Previously, anyone with a permit could purchase a firearm from any vendor but now only the police, military, and security firms will be able to purchase ammunition from only governmental manufactures or importers.
Although the gun ban came into effect June 1st, it will still take a month before the anti-crime commission gives its final recommendation.
I wonder what the percentage of tyrant states exist at this time in history as compared to 50, 75, 100 years ago.
Coming soon to a state near you.
What a curse he has been to that once great nation.
Fast and Furious 2.0
Not up in through here...
This is to ensure that firearms dont fall in the hands of criminals.
Gun violence is finally going to get under control down there.

The forces of evil have been trying to do this for years right here in the USA. I have several idiot siblings that think defending themselves is a matter of picking up the phone. I cannot seem to get it through their heads that if they can't defend themselves they have no defense. However they live in the DPRK (Ca.) so it is a mind set.
When Hugo goes to meet his maker (soon, it is?) the Commies don’t want armed mobs trying to take back their freedom.
“Coming soon to a state near you.”
took the words right out of my brain.....’cept I was going to say
“nation”.
But you are right - it will start in a state first: NY, NJ, CA, etc.
Probably too many hunters in IL, OR, or WA.....
It used to be one could do that, because the phones were substantial and would deliver a good blow when swung roundhouse fashion.
Nowadays, they don't weigh much, useless in defense.
Clever. I like it. Gave me a chuckle.
Exactly. I'm sure Chubby's party will attempt to have a North Korean-style transfer of power.
You can bet Bloomberg and his ilk are green with envy over this.
I believe yours is the correct answer.
Isn’t Chavez’s brother going to take over?
I too remember the glory days of black bakelite.
Nothing quite like big black Southwestern Bell rotary telephone upside the head to help get your mind right! Oh the good old days.
Nowadays, we must resort to guns and knives, and other icky things.
What to do, what to do?
Oh yeah, make crime illegal, yeah, that's the ticket, oh, and outlaw guns, for good measure.
I am daily amazed at the idiots who rationalize gun confiscation as crime control.
When do the Killing Fields start... has anyone found them yet?
LLS
This same policy has worked out well with Mexico and Cuba. What could possibly go wrong?
