After a day spent waging bi-coastal combat with the Obama campaign, Mitt Romney's team in Boston earned the highest compliment Rush Limbaugh has ever paid them Thursday afternoon: "I'm telling you," he said. "This is not the McCain campaign."
Once-skeptical conservatives knew exactly what he meant. In the eyes of many on the right, John McCain's 2008 presidential bid was a disaster not because he lost, but because he refused to fight. Conservatives believe McCain bought into a liberal media narrative that personal attacks on Barack Obama were unseemly and even racist. The conservative caricature of Candidate McCain that emerged in the wake of the Republicans' defeat wasn't of an unreliable moderate rather, it was one of an Establishment figure paralyzed by political correctness, and unwilling to go blow for blow with Obama.
But if the Vietnam veteran disappointed conservatives with his gun-shy campaign in 2008, Romney is uniting the right by playing the role of the bomb-thrower.
The unapologetically aggressive tone of Romney's campaign is manifest at every turn from his aides' fierce Twitter wars, to the candidate's surprise press conference at failed green solar company Solyndra, and the campaign's continued refusal to apologize for Donald Trump's outlandish conspiracy theories about Obama's birth certificate. It's all part of a deliberate and, so far, successful strategy aimed less at convincing undecided voters, and more at rallying the Republican Party around its candidate.
There were a lot of folks who didnt think hed have the edge to really take on the president, a Romney advisor, who outlined the campaign strategy on the condition of anonymity, told BuzzFeed, refrring to the Santorum people and conservatives who have been off the bandwagon.

Anyone ever notice that media and other Obama defenders (Democrat and Republican) will always criticize folks who bring up the subject Obama's birth certificate (most likely a forgery) but never, ever broach the subject of Obama not being a natural born citizen. They know they will lose the argument quickly. The truth is Obama is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on our Republic by the Democrats and the media and their Republican Party collaborators. I'll never forgive them -- particularly the Republican wimps who abetted this fraud.
“Myth like to say one thing and do another.
I still dont trust him with my vote or my country.”
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I am getting sick of this attitude. I’m as conservative as they come and I wish Sarah or some other conservative could be the nominee. But the process has given us Mitt and he is way, way, way better than Obama and I plan to give him 100% of my support. You should too, unless you want BHO to be back in the white house.
When hecklers come out in Massachusetts, of all places, challenging Axelrod “Where’s our jobs? Where’s our jobs?”, we should be able to storm every town hall headlined by an administration figure with the same chant since they simply have no intelligent reply.

Indeed. My theory all along, since 2008 is that since no one in their right mind would hire some 2 dollar, community organizer with absolutely no resume for anything but a floor sweeping job, this half cracker, muslim, black nationalist - Barack Hussein Obama was installed in a bloodless Coup d’ Etat to set a precedent for foreign nationals in the Oval Office.
Now they’re talking Rubio, as well. Who’s next? Kofi Annan?
I said it. I am thankful to be wrong in this case!
Dem job security payoff. If he doesn't rock the boat, there's no need to run anyone against him. The Dems get their votes, and the Conservative pay for lack or representation to boot.
I’m still working at warming up to Mitt, but he DOES seem to be more of a fighter than McCain.
Maybe I’ll only have to buy 9 more Ben Gay tubes instead of 10.
Obama is a creation of Big Labor, globalists, socialists, communists, and Green Energy . These are all just a different side of the same face.
Is that supposed to trump policy? Romney will & has always been a socialist. This election is like watching the Democratic primary again. America loses.
We didn't "take" McCain's "civility" for surrender; it was surrender. Plain and simple.
I don't believe in Romney, as in a guy I'd want to vote for as a first choice. He's an ABO for me. However, I will vote for him if his campaign continues to sock it to Obama. If he starts grabbing his ankles like that Spineless Jackass McCain did, then screw it, I'll spend my voting time buying food and ammo.
I have to admit I am enjoying the show.
So far, I am impressed
I would like to see Mitt do what Newt was suggesting he would do. Show up in the same cities that 0bama goes to and give speeches that rebut what he says.
I will vote for Romney if that’s the best chance of getting Obama’s commie hands off the steering wheel.
My lasting impression of McCain was when he gave his concession speech, the most obvious emotion was relief - he was glad he lost. It was like “Whew - finally I can get back to normal”. Romney at least acts like he wants the job. I don’t believe that Romney will be any sort of great president, but ANYTHING is better than what we have now.
If Romney is winning over the “right”, then the dividing line has taken a huge curve to the “left”.
I wouldn’t ever vote for him for anything except maybe to test out a new method of execution!
I am sick of this “vote for Mitt because he’s better than obama” line tossed at Me by Mitt’s supporters.
If you want to support a pro abortion, pro taxes, pro gun control socialist you go right ahead.
Just don’t call yourself a conservative while you do it.
It takes the extreme prejudice so characteristic of the msm to demand an apology for Trump’s take on the Kenyan dog-eater.
If BHO wins the White House in 2012, we will only have 8 years of straight socialism. This is because in 2016 a TEA partier such as Sarah Palin will get the GOP nomination, and then win the Presidency in a landslide.
If Romney wins, however, we will be guaranteed at least 12 years of straight socialism. Even worse, a compliant and honeymooning GOP majority will support most, if not all, of Romney's suspect policies. This would not happen with a GOP majority and 0bama in the White House.
Moreover, by nominating Romney, the GOP has managed to ensure that 0bamacare will not be the huge election issue that it should have been. This is because the abomination known as Romneycare is so similar to the abomination known as 0bamacare that it is virtually indistinguishable from it, Romney's mumblings about federalism notwithstanding.
Romney is anti-gun, pro-choice, pro-bailout, and is basically the architect of 0bamacare! The apologetics which Romney supporters employ in order to justify supporting him are breathtakingly inadequate.
True, we are apparently stuck with Romney, unless someone like Virgil Goode gets the fair consideration he merits. But to denigrate those who cannot support Romney on general principle, does a great disservice to many patriotic conservative Americans.
"Vote for Mussolini Romney, because he is way, way, way better than Stalin Obama" is simply not a good enough reason to vote for Mussolini Romney.
If the GOP loses the general election, it will not be anti-Romney TEA partiers and conservatives who are to blame. It will be the fault of the GOP establishment and the deluded GOP primary voters who helped foment this Massachusetts liberal upon us.
And let's not even get started on the fact that Romney is a member of the LDS church, which many Christians consider to be a virtual cult.
Just sayin'...
