"When Chad Draper finished eating at a fish-fry in his grandmother's garden in suburban Dallas earlier this year, he took a walk with some of the friends and relatives he would soon be leaving for Afghanistan. As they reached number 10141 in the neatly kept cul-de-sac in Preston Hollow, Private Draper paused to glance at the home of the man who, a decade earlier, started the war he was about to join. And George W. Bush looked back. Spotting Pvt. Draper's uniform, Mr Bush came outside and threw an arm around the 26-year-old Army Pathfinder for a photograph. "Thank you for your service," he said, wishing him well for his tour. It was a typically gregarious gesture from the 65-year-old neighbour who exchanges emails with Jacob King, 17 and mired in school exams, and who telephoned Patrick Bibb, 22, to thank him for putting up supportive banners. "He always stops to wave," said Mollye Vilbig, 87."...

It’s called class and character.
This is where I gagged and stopped reading.
Wait till the kenyan rock star gets booted out. We'll never hear the end of him, especially on any matter where race can be introduced.
What I don’t understand is letting the left get away with saying the words “Bush recession”. The recession was started by banks making sub-prime housing loans and the mortgage meltdown. Not a Bush problem.
Bush’s White house didn’t super-glue keyboard keys on their way out, and he isn’t going to turn into a Carter or Clinton as an ex-president.
I disagree.. His 8 years in office were a disaster for Republicans, and conservatives.. His policies were ok, but he NEVER fought back against the blatant lies from the left and the media.... Ever
The killer drunk, Kennedy, said he told lie after lie after lie after lie... Clinton blasted him. The media destroyed him... He could have used the bully pulpit to set the record straight, but didn't.... So... These charges stuck.. And weakened the conservative brand immensely. If you don't refute lies, in many folks' eyes, they become cemented as truth
Now, the KM has been blasting him and blaming him for 4 years non-stop... Why doesn't be come out and say... BS... The Dems has both the House and Senate since 2006 (till last year),and look what's happened since then. Stand up for yourself and set the record straight! He didn't start this battle but can defend his record... And take the "blame Bush" mantra away from the KM
You’ve nailed it. From Washington until Bush I Presidents always kept out of politics after their terms. Even Carter. In the beginning he just built his Habitat houses, which was great, then Clinton brought him out. We’ve never seen the end of him since.
“...he NEVER fought back against the blatant lies from the left and the media....”
And he never will. It’s not in his character. He’s explained a number of times that he doesn’t go there.
With all the hate talk directed at him and his family, is it any wonder that a good and decent man would choose to turtle up? And don’t neglect the pure fatigue factor. I think his presidency was probably the most stressful since Vietnam.
TC
I doubt that Presidents have mostly retired. I think many have been active behind the scenes and Hoover actually actively attacked FDR and his policies!
Welcome to FR.
The recession was kicked off by Chris Dodd and Barney Frank when they loudly and purposefully announced in September of 2008 that there would be no more unofficial government backing for fanni mae and Freddy Mac mortgages. This cut the legs out from under mortgage backed securities and thd hellish mess snow-balled. It was done to secure the election of the Kenyan and it worked.
It’s not the Bush recession, it’s the Dodd-Frank recession
There is another approach..........ignore idiots which is the approach he took.
It may take a little while but he will come out ok
Who’s commissioning these stories at this juncture? Some failing president need to resurrect his old boogeyman?
LLS
Didn’t stop them (journalist) saying Bush STARTED the war.
Sad. And I hate the subtle twisting of facts.
Their readers might just take that as trutth.

President Bush wanted to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2003.
“The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.
The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.
The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt — is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.”
