Some Cars I Can’t Review

ou’ll probably never read a road test review by me of the Nissan Leaf, or the Chevy Spark, or the Toyota RAV4 electric. And that may tell you every thing you need to know about these vehicles.I can’t review them because they can’t make it down here for me to review.

“Down here” being about 220 miles and five hours’ driving time from the hubs where the car companies keep their fleets of new cars, which ordinarily get sent out for hundreds of miles in every direction to guys like me for week-long evaluations.

I paid a visit to the Tesla dealer in Menlo Park a couple of days ago. The new S model has a claimed 300 mile range, assuming the correct battery pack option is selected.

Not a bad looking car, either.

I'm on my second diesel and I *love* it.The only truly unconventional car I'd consider is a diesel hybrid. There's one being introduced in Europe soon that gets 55MPG (highway) and features a combined 550 ft lbs of torque (some Ferraris don't have that much).

Now I could go for a Diesel Hybrid! I’m thinking my next car will be a little Turbo Diesel SUV. I’m not hauling kids around anymore, but want room for at least 5 passengers and room in the way back for some number of groceries and smaller stuff. Hubby has a Ford F-250 Turbo Diesel Crew Cab, so he’s got room for the big stuff.

It’s a similar story with the others.

Well, it will be. The Chevy Spark electric and the electric version of the Toyota RAV4 are 2013 models and so not yet available. But when they become available in a few months from now, you can expect the same performance – and cost – characteristics.

Sometime you just have to read the whole thing...

I have never heard of the Spark. Is it just renaming the Volt because of the engine fires? Truth in labeling? :p

Just make it the Chevy Electrical Fire and be done with it.

Apparently his solution is:

Truck It If You Can’t Drive That Joke.
