Masslive.com is reporting the latest bizarre twist in the saga of Elizabeth Warren likely false claims of Native American heritage. In a statement that would make Richard Nixon blush with shame, Warren has, effectively, told the new Cherokees Demand Truth from Elizabeth Warren group launched this morning by Cherokee genealogist Twila Barnes and fellow Cherokee David Cornsilk to go away and stop bothering her.

In a statement following the launch of Barnes' new website, Warren's press secretary Alethea Harney said it is time to move past the issue.
"Over the past month Elizabeth has answered countless questions openly while the people who recruited her have made it clear it was because of her extraordinary skill as a teacher and a groundbreaking scholar. She is proud of her family and her heritage, and it is something that her family talked about often when she was growing up," Harney said. "The fact that Elizabeth noted her heritage in a professional publication has been made public and addressed by Elizabeth on multiple occasions. It’s time to focus on the important issues facing Massachusetts. There are real issues middle class families are dealing with every day and that’s where Elizabeth is focused."
Barnes was not impressed with Warren's statement: "She just 'virtually' spit in our faces. She has not admitted the truth about her ancestry. Until she does, we will not be silent."

But she can't get her hand out because it is so tightly wraped around the object of her lies and fraud and she just can't bring herself to let it go. She's entirely invested in and believes her own Bravo Sierra.

You know....if Ted Kennedy was around....I think he’d be laughing his ass off at this whole Indian thing. She’s stumbled pretty good, and I just don’t see how any independent voters can clearly vote for her. Maybe even a quarter of all Democrats are laughing over this whole thing.
Pretty soon the Cherokees will be getting a call that there might be a problem with the transfer of Federal funds to tribal coffers.
This is no big deal to the majority of folks out in the U.S.
Many people are fractionally part American Indian. I know it is true in my family. As long as Elizabeth Warren is not demanding to be recognized as a part of the tribe, the Cherokee groups going ofter her on this issue look ridiculous.
I think of it as a sign of respect. Warren pretending to be Cherokee is like Romney pretending to be conservative. Both are trying to bask in the glory that the groups they are imitating actually deserve.

Move past it? In your dreams. If she lies so easily about this, she can be trusted in future matters? Yeah, this is an issue you can’t move past despite your prayers to “great grandfather”—pathological liars.
My Dad and some old family members used to tell us we had 1/32nd Indian.
All of them are deceased now.
A distant relative recently did an extensive family history. No Indian shows up on my father’s paternal side.
I looked at some websites that had my father’s material ancestry, and no Indian shows up there either.

I think many families that resided in the west/southwest claimed Indian heritage, but many of those were just stories that sounded good.
Of course, most of them don’t use the ‘tall tales’ to further their political careers or sell cookbooks.
Not really. They have a purpose and a point. My daughter-in-law is a "card carrying" Cherokee (she is 1/16").
Her Grandmother registered her in the tribe when she was born and now my grandson is also a "card carrying" member of the tribe. This is passed down only by those who are registered tribe members.
What is the potential impact? She was granted a full ride scholarship to a major university's nursing school, in exchange for two years work (with pay and housing allowance)at a reservation medical center which she has completed.
1/16th is not much, but she was one of only three applicants who had tribal cards, all three received scholarships.
By accepting Warren as a "native", this opens up the door to others claiming to be "native-by-Family-lore".
I hope she gets scalped in the election (figuratively speaking of course).
My Great, Great, Great Grandmother is Cherokee, and I have never tried to get an advatage because of it.
I am proud of it.

Same here. I’m five generations from a full-blood Cherokee (also a grandmother) or 1/32.
I think most of us are appalled by her shameless use of the heritage for her career.

Her retailing of a tribe is enough to make a murder of crows blush, but of course Democrats are harder to shame than that .......
You DIL made a choice which is her legal right to do so. I have no quibble with her actions.
Four years ago I discovered that my greatgrandmother was listed on the 1900 census as colored. Dad always knew there was a family secret, only not what it was.
We had already known that someone in the family geneology, probably as far back as the 18th century, was an American Indian. I’m not a “card carrying” anything, and would never be one even if eligible.
My nephew’s paternal grandmother is half-Cherokee, but none of her children were ever registered, and neither was she. Nice to know information, but with us you make it on your own and not because of government largesse.
My nephew and myself are multiracial. Does it benefit me? No. Should we keep it secret? Hell no!
Forty years ago, I remember reading that approximately 60% of U.S. citizens are part American Indian. Geneological data has revealed to a great many people that they are other races, as well. Should they keep their mouths shut? I hope not.
The problem as I see it is when someone uses this information to try and claim a legal benefit, an entitlement, from the Federal Government.
Did Elizabeth Warren do that? I haven’t read that she has done so but perhaps I am wrong. Do you know?
I cannot say categorically that she purposefully mislead others to believe she was Native. However, she was certainly aware that they were listing her as a minority for theirs (or hers?) advantage.
To be honest, I am not upset about the heritage issue, we all have a past. (My paternal Grandmother refused to identify her father's real name and where he was from or why he left Sweden).
Is what this whole thing tells me is that Warren does not have the character that we need in our leaders.
I can tolerate (but never vote for) an honest liberal, but I despise those who lie and practice to deceive from us their true intentions, but that pretty much includes them all.
Exactly...she used this tale to promote herself and to advance her career.
Once you decide to go that route, you had better vet the story and make sure it is the truth. There are all sorts of acolades. monetary, preference, etc. that go along with a certain degree of Indian ancestry in today’s America.

THAT is the true issue here. If she wasn’t a member of a tribe, she should never have been listed as a minority by the school.
I would really like to see the day come when we’re all just Americans with no hyphens for distinguishment.
