Seniors chop up AARP cards in Voter ID protest
Star Tribune (MN) ^ | May 23, 2012 | Jennifer Brooks

Conservative groups are calling on Minnesota seniors to boycott the American Association of Retired Persons over the group’s opposition to the photo identification measure on the November ballot.

To drive their point home, seniors gathered at a Wednesday press conference snipped AARP cards into shreds. They say there are conservative-affiliated groups that can give them the same senior discounts and that share their conviction that requiring a photo ID to vote will reduce voter fraud.

Great they are speaking out as they did in the Dallas AARP meeting where officials walked out of the meeting when challenged about their stance on ObamaCare (on YouTube).

First AARP pulls one on Obamacare, now Voter ID..drip, drip.

Join a conservative seniors group. There’s at least one out there.

I get AARP’s solicitations about once a month. I chop up and mail back their material in their postage paid envelope.

The AARP has transitioned into a corporation and liberal advocacy organization - it will promote policies that will further its financial interests. It is now only disguised by its former reputation as a seniors group.

This organization is a good alternative: http://www.generationamerica.org/

I play guitar and I use my AARP card all the time.

It makes a wonderful medium-light pick.

Mrs Dog and I washed our hands of AARP, which vociferously supported the bill, when Congress passed the Obamacare boondoggle. AARP continues to send us stuff which goes from the mail box to the burn pile without passing go. sd

Every time AARP sends me something (and they do, often) I cram all their literature into the remittance envelope provided with a note saying “I DO NOT WANT TO BE PART OF YOUR PRO-LIBERAL ORGANIZATION!” and send it back to them using their pre-paid postage. It doesn’t stop the mailings but it costs them money and frankly, I enjoy doing it.

The envelopes are big.
You can add the day’s rubbish, used Kleenex, whatever.

Appreciate the references. I just checked the "American Seniors Association" site and was told I needed to install a new plug-in to view all the content.

No thanks.

See if you can tape it on to a brick or add a some metal to the envelope and let me know the results!

lol! Compared to the envelope that was sent to me the remittance envelope is usually small. So when I cram ALL the info back into it it usually looks like there is a brick inside. I’m sure the USPS hates processing such items and charges accordingly. I like the brick idea, though. :-)
