Man charged with fatally shooting boy in pizzeria

A Rogers Park man is accused of fatally shooting a 13-year-old boy inside an Uptown pizzeria after yelling gang slogans at him, authorities say.

The father states the boy wasn't part of a gang. The article doesn't mention why the 13-year old was out at 2:45 a.m. (reported in yesterday's Tribune) but perhaps that isn't newsworthy. The "misguided yoot" shooter has more than a dozen arrests.

The gentleman’s name is Andre Alejandro, who, according to the article was a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang. More than likely that is because of budget cuts to libraries and probably global warming.

It was sad to see that a “Rogers Park man” did this, and that he’s in the Gangster Disciples. I used to live in Rogers Park. It’s always distressing to learn that more and more formerly nice areas are going “ghetto”, and that the youth gangs have taken root.

The article has weak sentence structure, too:

“Alejandro began yelling at the boy and the two argued and then Alejandro left, police said.”

Also, calling the deceased by his first name (Ivan) is a bit odd. Perhaps because of his age? Still, most articles will refer to people by the family name (Alanis) once the full name (Ivan Alanis) is mentioned.

The article fails to note the time of the shooting (2:45 a.m. is important). The father is perhaps in denial or unaware about the victim’s gang activity but there should be a reference as to why the 13-year old (mentioned as a 14-year old yesterday) was out at that time of the morning, presumably with school was just a few hours away.
