I like this, from the article:

Waiters at Nonna Betta, which specialises in Roman Jewish cuisine, were amazed by Mr Zuckerberg's parsimony, not just because of his huge wealth but because of Americans' reputation for tipping generously, as is expected of them at home.

Now compare these two considerations. 1) He's a multibillionaire. 2) He's an American!

Oh beautiful, for spacious skies.

They’re not home. They’re in Rome. What ever happened to “When in Rome...”

Perhaps this establishment is accustomed to the extra tips from tourists who don’t know any better, so they resent Americans (especially wealthy ones) who are knowledgeable about these things.

Maybe he was embracing the local culture for crappy tipping. Everyone's a whiner these days....LOLOLOLOL...
