Twenty-four hours after a police officer shot Lily, a 5-year-old Border Collie-English Setter mix, its owners still don't understand why the police officer was on their property and why he used lethal force.

Asked by the officer to control his two dogs, Mark Boling urged him not to advance, but he did. "My dogs don't bite, They're not going to hurt you," Boling, 52, an electronics technician with a defense contractor, recalled saying. "They're just going to run up to you."
A statement issued by police spokesman Sgt. Pedro Criado said the officer waited by the driveway when two barking dogs charged him in an aggressive manner while he repeatedly asked a male at the house to call the animals back. Then the unnamed officer jumped onto the porch pillar.
"As the dogs were getting closer to attack/bite the officer, the officer fired his service weapon, striking the dog closest to him," the spokesman said.
Boling said he had gained control of one of the dogs by the time the officer raised his gun, "Then I hear my wife yelling, 'Don't shoot my baby, please don't hurt my baby!"
From above the dog, the officer fired once, striking the 5-year-old mixed breed on the back. It dashed to the back yard where it bled to death within three minutes.
"You'd better check on your dog," she quoted the officer as responding.
But the policeman still had the gun raised and pointed toward her husband and surviving dog, she asserted.
"Why are you on my property — I didn't call you," Boling recalls asking.

The Bolings said neighbors overheard police who arrived on the scene saying that the responding officer had mistakenly thought he was in the 4900 block. The officer himself was heard wrongly describing Lily as a pit bull, the couple said.
What a lard ass.
And some cops are just plain evil and commit crime under the color of authority.
The cop just ran the dog down and shot him like Trayvon.
Typical out of control, trigger-happy punk cowboy. Another demonstrable menace to society... on our dime.

LEO shoot and kill dogs routinely for
a couple of reasons....one, because they
can do it and get away with it. This gives
them the petty adrenalin rush of power.
Two, the do it to intimidate people. When
you display open brash and unnecessary violence
you are sending a message. That message is “don’t
F**K with me because I can kill with impunity and
the next victim might be you”
LEO speak and understand english....they just can’t
be bothered to hear or heed the words from lowly
citizens who don’t have their assumed powers of life
and death. For us the only language they care to use
is the language of violence. Till we start speaking
back to them in that language they can’t be bothered to
listen.
This cop is beyond stupid...Fire his arse!
Be careful, every tin-horn LEO organization has a SWAT Team to send to your house if you get uppity.
I am so sorry that the couple lost their beloved pet.
Any dog will run up to someone who approaches their property.

Can’t see why a policeman would be so afraid of a small dog like that. Why can’t they wait and see.
Even knowing how to say the phrase “I felt threatened” should disqualify a person from being a cop.
They’re supposed to be the fearless, selfless heroes who protect those of us who might *actually* “feel threatened” by someone/thing.
However, it's almost daily that I read a news story about a cop that terrorizes a law abiding citizen or even an entire family.
We're becoming a corrupt banana republic.

Fear. Training. Both complicated by reports of a “Pitbull” on scene all compounded drove this tragedy. He just reacted more than he assessed. Just my supposition. At some point sound judgment has to influence training and reactions. (And how abt reviewing SOP in these matters nationwide) This hoped for good judgment might well have lead the officer to the correct address. And sadly, a deceased PB type dog I reckon if it existed.
I have heard that the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia shot family dogs that lived under homes (homes were on stilts) because the dogs would warn the families of an approaching person (enemy). The KR would then listen to what was being said in the home and arrest people for speaking against the government.
There’s something about all this dog shooting that feels the same.
Poor, sweet, beautiful dog.
Not all facts in evidence but what are, seems like a good case for wrongful death, doubtless profound sentimental damages to a family- and maybe some lessons can be learned. Procedures scrapped and revamped entirely.

LEO has decided it’s us vs. them.
Hard to give a damn when one of ‘them’ (And remember, THEY chose this battle, not us) is killed.
They’ve decided to become, and act, as just another street gang.
One would think that with all the training police and first responders are required to take and pass, they’d have a rudimentary understanding of the clear signs a dog will display-aggression, fear, apprehension, playfulness, contentment, etc. Dogs will tell us their state of mind by their tail, posture, ears, eyes, maul, etc. Testosterone laden LEOs who display innappropriate aggression may well light the fire that will force a pack animal to defend his or her pack and territory. Perhaps if cops carried more dog bisquits than hollowpoints, fewer senseless canine executions would occur.
