A state-by-state look at the road to 270
By The Associated Press 15 hrs ago
An analysis of the state-by-state race to 270 electoral votes, the total needed to win the presidency, and where Democratic President Barack Obama and probable Republican nominee Mitt Romney stand now. The numbers reflect electoral votes:
SOLIDLY DEMOCRATIC (186): California, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
**SNIP**
SOLIDLY REPUBLICAN (159): Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Agree with both lists, except ME.
Really wish on election day that the network news wouldn’t give any results until all the polls are closed.
I think more people are waking up to the realities of life and are leaning more Republican. There will still be some states hopeless, in this regard, but it would surprise me if Obama still had a lock on 186 electoral votes.
Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are up for grabs.
Florida, New Hampshire, Ohio and Virginia should be put in leaning GOP list.
Upshot is that the GOP has 270 electoral votes either solid or leaning and that the Democrats have 201 electoral votes either solid or leaning. The remaining 67 electoral votes are up for grabs.
That's as of right now. It's going to get even better as we move through the summer.
AZ’s 11 EVs would bring the Pub total to 170. There is no way Romney is going to lose AZ. For one thing, the illegal vote won’t help because Sheriff Joe has chased them away in droves. The college student double voting won’t work because AZ has a voter ID law. A huge factor is the LDS which represents 11% of the electorate, and you can bet your bottom dollar the LDS ground game will be awesome.
AZ goes to Romney.
Comment on the article:
This country can fix all its problems by simply moving retirement age to 70 and voting age to 30.
Look what group that Obama won in 2008 he he doing better with? = NONE.
What group that Obama lost last time is he winning? = NONE.
He is down 5 with Catholics and No Democrat has EVER won while losing the Catholic vote. Black enthuisiasm and youth voter enthusiasm is DOWN 30 points. Obama is losing with women and Democrats don't win unless they win women by 10 points or more. Hispanic voter enthusiasm is FLAT at 38%!
Whites are dead set against him. But I think Obama has the Martian vote sewed up and you KNOW how big they turn out!
>I think more people are waking up to the realities of life and are leaning more Republican.
Don’t worry, Romney will disabuse them of that notion.

On election day?
Some are already giving the results months before election day. No need to go to the polls this time. We already know who the winner will be.
I agree with you.
Except that, and I know this is a radical leap here, those under 30 really haven't done jack shit with respect to the country's policies. Bush-era radically expanded the power and size of government (Patriot Act springs to mind) and did nothing to restrain or reduce spending; Obama-era radically expanded the scope of government (Obamacare) and "shored up" the Bush-era expansions.
There has never in my political lifetime been an "electable" small government (or even responsible government) candidate.
At this point, I think Ron Paul would be the best choice of recognizable [famous/semi-famous] people to be President. Why? Precisely because we need someone at the Execuitive who is concerned with the debt who has some understanding of the Constitution.
His "insane foreign policy" is, quite honestly a non-issue: that is precisely why Congress has a say in confirming the Presiden't Cabinet.
Even if, as we near the election, our candidate is far ahead, voting is still VERY important:
1) We need to take over the Senate big. There’s a chance we can bound to 60. Think: FL, MO, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, VA, WI, possibly CT, HI, MI and PA, and retaining MA.
-> even if we don’t hit 60 but come close, maybe Joe Manchin of WV and Angus King of ME act as deal-makers instead of as filibusterers.
2) Adding to our majorities in the Congress, in Governors and in state legislators would be fine.
-> if we start returning education, health care and so forth to the states, it’d be good that the state governments are in our hands.
So state where the latest poll is 47 Obama, 43 Romney is solid Dim huh? BTW, that would be Oregon.
“...that is precisely why Congress has a say in confirming the Presiden’t Cabinet.”
A hell of a lot of good that did with this present administration and appointments.
Oregon was won in 2008 by 17. Just a few days before the election, McCain saw he was within four and campaigned there hard.
It helps when the Congress isn't playing Alter-Boy Kabuki Theater Master 2000!!!
(By that, I mean it helps if the Congress-critters a) did what they said they would, and b) were held to task for inappropriate actions; it would be VERY interesting if the various States started issuing warrants for the arrest of their reps and senators. Which, I'm sure, they have every right to do; one example from awhile back was a federal act that transferred control of the States's National Guard units to the President, which many state Constitutions explicitly put under the command of the Governor, thus the legislating parties thereof are exercising authority that they do not have [in no State Constitution that I have seen is the power to amend given to the federal reps/senators]. )
That said, even given the failure of Congress on the issue of appointments, they have more than enough to blast the Executive (Fast & Furious, Libya, Solyndra, GM, etc).
Of course, even as-is the Congress has immense power to reign in the Judaical branch.
I think the bigger question is "why is the Congress acting so impotent?"
Some of it, I'm sure, is learned behavior... and some of it is go-along-to-get-along, but even so, that cannot account for their utter misfeasance.
“I think the bigger question is “why is the Congress acting so impotent?””
I could spell it out as ‘Graham’, ‘Boehner’ etc...no spine, no balls. That is why it is so important to find and elect those who do believe we have a Constitution that controls, and who have spine and balls to protect that.
And with the prospects of a possible Romney presidency, that is every bit as important...only a strong, conservative House and Senate will be able to control him.
“This country can fix all its problems by simply moving retirement age to 70 and voting age to 30.”
Let’s stop women and blacks from voting too! /sarc
