Having lived in HI only a few years after the time line in question, I can assure you that often people never even left their neighborhoods often, a lot of people still walked to places or took the bus. That part of Kalihi Uka (up in the upper valley) was considered way out of the way. A teenage girl visiting a married man old enough to be her grandfather who had a wife and numerous children would be so noticeable and out of place that people would have talked, it’s ludicrous to even consider it (especially since there is not a single shred of evidence).
