The 96th running of the Indy 500 coming up shortly on ABC.
Oh the things that might...but probably not have been! Back in the late 60’s early 70’s I wanted to get into formula Ford. Chip Gnassi was into that and he almost sold me one of his “last year”cars. The cost wasn’t too much but the cost of travel, upkeep, crew and trying to pay for school was, LOL!
I would probably have killed myself!
It would have been almost as bad but I kinda wish they hadn’t regulated the turbine cars out of competition.
“It has always had an international flair, not just American.”
What is your point? I said that I wanted an American to win.
“International flair” does not impress me. As soon as the NBA, NFL, MLB and other major sports as well as the business industry hired foreigners the country became “contaminated”.
Interview with Sato now. In the replay it looks like he got a little loose and might have slid into Franchitti...not sure...he seems to be saying Franchitti should have given more space.
hasn’t been the same since they quit using turbocharged 4 cylinder engines.
Yeah I remember those, it was a Granatelli car?
I as a kid remember reading a book about a mechanic who built a turbine car for the Indy, it was so fast they limited him on tire size, so he redesigns the tire compound. From the 70’s era.
At least the Pirates are beating the Cubs...sigh...8-0....
Yup...Andy Granatelli...STP..The Greatest Spectacle in Racing...dang I’m old...you must be too, LOL!
Now 10-0...first time this season the Pirates are in the double digits according to the announcer...hmmm...Cubs...
I remember one race, I think it was 1984, the driver was Sullivan?
Anyway he does a complete 360 down the front stretch, and still wins!
IIRC Danny Sullivan won the 500 ...ummm not sure what year...spun in the middle of the race and went on to win...I think Mario Andretti was involved but I don’t recall how.
Yep, right up to turn two on the second to last lap!
It was a great race though! I do hate it when the race ends under caution ....
"Will the lady who left her nine children at Wrigley Field please come back and pick them up? They're beating the Cubs nine to nothing in the top fo the 8th inning!"
GO GO WHITE SOX!!!
Yep, he should've waited. That's been the knock on him though, too impatient. Was terribly disappointed with him after the race, he all but blamed Franchitti for not "moving over" to let him by. That's complete crap, IMO. He took the chance and burned himself. (And I say that as a Team Rahal fan.)
I agree. Sato ...I was kinda rooting for him at that point... pushed things.
It was more him going into Franchetti. Should have manned up. Sounded like sour grapes.
If he had waited he could have been at least second. Now he’s what..17?
1985- the spin and win....
