The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is taking a rare step of allowing public comments prior to issuing a decision on a study that could result in outlawing certain types of shotguns currently available to citizens.
The ATF completed a study regarding the importability of certain shotguns. The basis for a possible ban is based on a loosely defined Sporting Purpose test. Using the vague definition almost all pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns could be banned as they are all capable of accepting a magazine, box or tube capable of holding more than 5 rounds. Other characteristics determined to be military by the ATF can also be used as a basis for a ban.
Ironically, many shotguns with military features are currently being used in shooting competitions held by the USPSA, IDPA and IPSC. The rules could also result in obscure regulations where an individual would be unsure if he is violating them or not.
Dudley Brown, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, said if the ATF succeeds with the banning of tactical shotguns it will be the most dangerous interpretation of the 1968 Gun Control Act ever envisioned and will outlaw thousands of perfectly legitimate home defense shotguns.
The ATF is currently allowing public comments on the study until the end of the month. Those wishing to express concerns about the study can send an email to shotgunstudy@atf.gov
“so I wouldnt be so high and mighty as to tell a kid to drop out of college to move there.”
Who Done That!!!! Dasterdly fellow!
Now Californians from San Diego know New Mexico.
sure dude.
You are correct.
You want the republican kid to drop out of college and move, but why move to another Obama state like you live in, or any other state until he completes his field of study and gets his degree?.
And yes, I know New Mexico quite well, much better than I let on in post 54, but that was enough detail for the internet.
At least I know that you live in an Obama state, something you don’t seem to realize.
I am a Texan, not a Californian, the clue should have been my mention of wanting to get back to the Texas coast.
Well, the ATF regarded the Striker-12 and USAS-12 as unregistered 'destructive devices', but there was no special license to keep the one you already owned.
If the state you lived in had language in it's civil code prohibiting NFA-registered destructive devices, then you were screwed but there are few states that have such laws.
Only dealers, importers, and manufacturers of NFA-restricted firearms need any sort of 'license' and/or 'special operational tax' (SOT) classification.
Next target against Title II code is removing 'Sporting Purposes' language from the 1968 GCA in light of the USSC's 'Heller' ruling. The founders never intended a restriction on private citizens inside or outside the Militia Clause under the notion of what's 'sporting' and what's not.
So when is the US gonna outlaw the ATF??
About time, isn’t it?
Not a problem. Just fill cup partly w shot, top up with melt glue. Now you have a frangible 12’ slug.
Same thing goes well for 44mag, 44, 41mag, 41 and 40.

That’s nuts!
I believe that you can buy ammunition through the mail:

Thanks for the post and clarification on BATF funding restriction.
The shotgun ban issue was recently re-posted by infowars.com, with a recent date:

The only thing that needs banned is the ATF.
S&W 916A has a 19 inch barrel and holds 7 in the mag and one in the chamber. (2 3/4”) it has a 3” chamber and the mag will hold only 6 of those. It was a decent gun. That is until that terrible boating accident.
Actually, they required you to register them.

The idea of trying to throw tube magazines in with box or drum magazines is that the capacity of tube magazine depends on what ammunition you're using. They can play all kinds of games with that.
If you have shoes, anyone can relocate. It won’t be easy, but you can do it if you want to do it. Everything else si an excuse.
I was told that by a LEO friend. He appaers to have been misinformed. My bad...
I’ve been looking into that because I want to go to that part of the country, and away from the NE. But from what I’ve read it seems like you have to know somebody who knows somebody to crack that nut.
That’s true; they added them to the NFA under amnesty, but there was no special license to keep the one(s) you owned.
mfl
I have a 12 round mag and it works well but it is kind of awkward because of it’s length. I’ve yet to try my 20 round drum.
