Florida Voting Purge a Thorny Legal Issue Ahead of Primary
By William Browning | Yahoo! Contributor Network – 23 hrs ago

Several civil rights groups sent a letter to Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner on Thursday outlining their objections to the proposed removal of names on a list of registered voters. WFSU reports that up to 180,000 potentially ineligible voters will be scrutinized as they are cross-referenced in other state databases and a federal one. The groups threatened legal action if the process continues.

* Victor Dimaio believes the targets of the purge are minority groups. "The majority of the people being kicked off the ballots are primarily Hispanic and minorities and African Americans," Dimaio said, according to WFSU.

* The letter was signed by representatives of six groups. Project Vote, Fair Elections Legal Network, Advancement Project, League of United Latin American Citizens, Latino Justice and the Hillsborough Hispanic Coalition all objected to Detzner's actions this close to the Aug. 14 primary election.

Looks like that Bush - Gore Election wasn’t as close as they said it was.

I always suspected that the DNC stuffed the Florida ballot boxes in 2000.

It explains two things:

1) Why algore called back to retract his concession (somebody finally told him the fix was in)

2) The “hanging” and “dimpled” chads. DNC staffer's had been using pieces of wire to punch stacks of ballots for Gore. When the wire didn't penetrate all the way it left the last ballot “dimpled” or partially perforated.

What BS. If they are dead, remove them, all of them regardless of race, color, religion, etc.

Impose a thousand dollar fine and sixty days in jail for voting on a dead person’s behalf and the shenanigans will end.

I actually think vote fraud should be punished very severely. To me it's a step below treason or espionage.
Like treason or espionage it's an attack on a fundamental aspect of the commonwealth. Where treason and espionage attacks us as a people, vote fraud undermines our most fundamental tenet of government - self-government.

If someone wanted to make it a capital crime I would not object.

To be effective any punishment for vote fraud needs to primarily deliver the consequences to the candidate or candidate's organization that organized it. Maybe a life time ban from politics might be appropriate for the candidate and his/her minions as well as permanent loss of the voting right.

I love it!

Dead Voters - the Newest Victimized Minority Class

There must be some way to get in on this scam.

Maybe I can found a new "charity": Dead Voters' Coalition, and get the government to pay me money to "represent" the interests of that "community"...

So a dead man can’t vote even though he was a veteran and paid taxes all his life? Republicans are just mean.

Of course since everyone is baptized Mormon after they die, this is religious discrimination as well.

Only after you assume room temperature. Good luck with all that. (Can you leave a vote in your will? Dunno.)

“Impose a thousand dollar fine and sixty days in jail for voting on a dead person’s behalf and the shenanigans will end.”

Isn’t it already a felony?

Just enforce the punishments that exists instead of ignoring infractions.

I think the Democrats are finally starting to realize how utterly devastated their party will be if only legal voters can vote.

It was common knowledge back in the 1940s and earlier that every year, Democrats would go to the insane asylums and homes for the severely retarded, to register them and vote them, often by holding their hand to “help” them draw an ‘X’ for their signature. Then they would hit the cemeteries and vote people who had died decades before.

These nationwide efforts to correct voter roles could cost the Democrats several *million* votes in the election process. With very, very few being legal voters disenfranchised because of some error.

Oddly enough, in Florida, one of the big problems is that New Yorkers, who live half the year in Florida, register to vote in both states.

New Yorkers, who live half the year in Florida, register to vote in both states.

And people from Illinois who keep cottages in beautiful Wisconsin do the same.

A few years ago, a Union-butt-boy and loudmouth drunk Democrat bragging about having helped old folks at the nursing homes vote.

He said he would mumble and spit the Republicans name and then get loud and cheery when he gave the Democrats name.

He was as proud as can be for it.
