No. 2 reactor source of most contamination

The Yomiuri Shimbun

Tokyo Electric Power Co. has revealed that the damaged containment vessel of the No. 2 reactor at its Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant was the main source of radiation contamination in Iitate and neighboring areas in northeastern Fukushima Prefecture.

The damaged No. 2 reactor's containment vessel released an estimated 160,000 terabecquerels of radioactive substances on March 15, causing the soil in Iitate and surrounding areas to become heavily contaminated, TEPCO said Thursday. One terabecquerel is equal to 1 trillion becquerels.

The amount of radioactive material that leaked into the environment from the Nos. 1 to 3 reactors in the five days following the March 11 disaster is estimated at 900,000 terabecquerels, 1.2 to 1.9 times the estimates released by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency in February, TEPCO said.

TEPCO's estimates covered the period from March 12 to March 31. Radioactive emissions after the beginning of April were considered less than 1 percent of those in March and were not included in the latest estimates, the utility said.

You will get it a year from now. Only if it has become a non-news by then.

Building #4 has developed more problems since their survey. The bulging wall problem is nothing. The last week, apparently after they conducted their survey, the north wall has been slowly collapsing. It is the wall farthest away from the Spent Fuel pool, but why is the north wall collapsing ? Just stress from the original explosion ?

The part of the article discussing a south easterly wind brought the sad image of the Japanese who fled north west - straight into the path of the contamination because SPEEDI data was not released, not even a weather report to tell them they’d be downwind....it’s crushing to think about it.

This strategy of delaying information until it is useless has worked up to this point, but I keep thinking at some point all the coverups are going to be out in the open and those helping to hide the truth will be exposed. If this happens, then maybe the evil people lying to the public will be thrown out of office but this is insufficient justice and may merely underscore the fact that, not only was their withholding of critical information barbaric and inhuman to begin with, but it didn’t even work to save their stupid jobs.
