Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been researching Obama's residency status using a volunteer cold-case "posse," but now has employed a taxpayer-funded deputy, The Arizona Republic reported Monday.

The Arizona Secretary of State may have a legitimate reason to investigate Obama's birth certificate, but it's not so clear that Maricopa County does.

Of course Joe Arpaio (who will be 80 on June 14) can spend as much of his own time and money on this as the voters will put up with.
