China's Dalian Wanda Group and AMC Entertainment announced Monday a $2.6 billion deal to take over the U.S. theater group, forming the world's largest cinema chain, according to a new release on the deal.
The move is the latest in a raft of deals between U.S. entertainment companies and Chinese firms, linking the world's largest theater market with the world's fastest growing.
"This acquisition will help make Wanda a truly global cinema owner, with theatres and technology that enhance the movie-going experience for audiences in the world's two largest movie markets," said Wang Jianlin, chairman and president of Wanda.

“Ive never tried to eat popcorn with chopsticks.”
Actually, I do. It’s fun, it makes the bowl last longer, and it’s practice for when I eat Chinese.
>>AMC was once a Bain Capital firm.

Yep. And this is how Kolobian Entre-bee-neur from Deseret is going to save us from the Marxist in the White Hut?
How about Jackie Chan AND Jet Li; Forbidden Kingdom, very well done.
I’ll check it out...thanks.
You haven’t looked at the box office receipts for movies like The Avengers and Hunger Games, have you?
I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, so help me understand; that was sarcasm, right?
WEAR THE GLASSES THE LIBS ARE TAKING OVER!
ROOOWDY RODDY PIPEEERRRRR!!!
I think Roddy had cancer a few years ago but he STILL LIVES! He is an awesome character. I remember reading somewhere he was a Golden gloves champ, but more than that the guy could talk his ass off!
My favorite wrestler of all time though is Andre the Giant. I saw him live in the `80s and the guy was so huge he looked inhuman. I couldn't believe he was for real. I mean my God, the guy was 7'4"!! A lot of people don't realize that, but he truly was a giant which a person can go throughout their whole lives without ever seeing. People always see plenty of midgets, but a *true* giant probably never. Basketball players don't count, they are tall but not true giants. I remember the boots he was wearing looked too small, as if they couldn't find a pair big enough, and that is why he plodded on the mat rather than walked. You saw these little booties on him then this huge wad of fat on top. LOL!
Someone told me once he use to drink 100 beers in one sitting! You ever see this graffitti on any buildings or anything else? They have them all over New York city. That's him, Andre. Some dude is a huge Andre fan and he puts this pic in almost every city. I am not admitting to anything.
It's been up over a year.
“Would you rather buy a Made in China Blue-ray player and Flatscreen instead “
No.
How about a Made in China phone or a computer?
No. Are you advocating for people to patronize businesses owned by the ChiComs, or do you work for AMC?

This is a major takeunder. Marquee Holdings paid $1.2b for AMC stock in 2004. It is now getting $0.7b to sell its ownership of the company to Wanda. Marquee Holdings also paid a substantial sum to add Loews (about the same size as AMC then) to the conglomerate. Bottom line - I suspect a $2b equity investment by Marquee in AMC and Loews is now being sold at distressed sale price of $0.7b. Not one of Bain’s (15% owner of Marquee) better investments.
