Michigan politicians met in downtown Detroit on May 14 to break ground on a new Whole Foods Market with hopes of boosting the areas economy and bringing new jobs to the city.
The new store is said to be part of an incentive package that includes $4.2 million in state and local funds. The store will receive tax credits and promise to remain open for seven years after receiving the first installment, Spero News reported.

I was going to say a year but you are probably closer to what ends up happening.
“This site must have some affluent, upscale neighborhoods in the vicinity or WF would not be doing this.”
...that’s possible. But I think it’s also possible that they know what happens when they say no to the ghetto. They’re labelled “racists” and in swoops Al and Jesse. The 4 million will help defray the costs for looting.
Lemme guess:
This Whole Foods store is going into an inner city area that happens to have a college campus (or two) nearby.
So the government is paying Whole Foods to reap the benefits (the presence of white suburban kids with access to Dad’s checkbook), of the largely government-supported, BigEducation crime syndicate.
“They might stay open longer if they can get a government subsidy to cover their losses.”
Crap—I was just thinking that this must be part of a secret deal that has already been made.
My first thought was a mental picture of the store installing a video surveillance camera at the BACK door.
Nothing for looters in Detroit to take from a Whole Foods store unless they sell fried chicken.
Nothing to see here just a Libertarian fleecing another bunch of liberals that think they’re dealing with fellow liberals.
Arugula for all! Is this a great country or what?
I look forward to them encountering the mass shoplifting, their first hold up, and their first profit/loss statement from that store.
Heck 4.2 million probably isn’t enough to build a Whole Foods store, much less stock and run it. I bet it folds pretty soon.
Same politicians fight AGAINST Walmart when they show up. Expense Whole Foods won’t last in Detroit
Whole Foods has the best butcher shop and fish market in Oklahoma City. I only go there to purchase steak and seafood for special occasions, but the quality is amazing. They also have specialty dark chocolate that is to die for. While you may spot some yuppie vegans there, you can also see knuckle-dragging conservatives such as myself.
I have a niece who married a Norwegian communist and has since become a devout leftist. Well, they both tell me how if they ever came back to the US, Detroit is the only place theyd consider. Great things are happening there. So, knowing that leftists wouldnt know an original thought from a hole in their head, this must be some sort of general consensus among lefties. Hence, why Whole Foods would ever consider opening their doors there. Man, I wish I could be a fly on the wall when these two demographics collide.
Yep, just what Detroit needs to heal—access to $2.99 per each avocados.
We are broke. Downtown Detroit actually isn’t that bad, but there aren’t enough yuppies and hipsters to sustain that place unless some of the attorneys there stop at Whole Foods on their way back to Bloomfield.
Midtown isn’t bad and the Cass Corridor has been cleaned up some, but it’s neighboring areas in three directions are bad.
Detroit is a brain dead city on life support.
There is no amount of money that could turn that city around.
A city success is due only the hard work, energy and intelligence of its citizens.
Detroit and California are a glimpse of this country’s future.
The camera’s won’t help. The “Shrinkers” will all be wearing hoodies.
Whole foods has it’s fans and customers. To each, his own.
However, putting a Whole Foods store in a war zone city, Detroit is asking for trouble. And the will find it soon enough.
When the store closes, and it will, Whole Foods will say they tried. And the race batters will leave them alone.
The last of my family that was still in the city just left. I have one response to those two. Aaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahaha. If they really want to see Detroit, and I mean the real Detroit away from Wayne State or Downtown, to take a drive down Fenkell from Telegraph eastward.
