On the way home we stopped and spent a good part of a day at Vicksburg, MS. The missus and I both had ancestors who fought there.
I have never been to Savannah.
Looks nice.
I would reclaim that P-51 if I were you!
Would love to visit the Mighty 8th Museum!
(PE is the 328th Fighter Squadron)
Awesome pictures!
Lot’s of history in Savannah too. Very cool place. Fort Jackson, Fort Pulaski.
“They even had my very own personal P51 in the gallery.”
More years ago than I can count, a cousin of mine who flew in the Navy, had his own P51 at the airport in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I flew with him, but not in the P51...it was my first flight, a small 2 seater over Council Bluffs/Omaha.
He said the P51 didn’t spend much time in the air...too much for fuel. And that was when fuel was ‘cheap’...
I drive by the museum many times a year these days, but have only stopped outside to let the dogs out for a bit before getting back on the road.
Your picture tells me that I need to take some time when it cools down and I can leave the dogs in the truck for a while.
Hmmm...Stearman, P-51 and an Me-109...is that the tail of a B-17? They look like the real deal...are they real or models?
Just visited the Mighty Eighth Museum in Savannah last month. Wonderful place! Amazing stories.
