Ted Cruz wont go to the U.S. Senate to get along in the U.S. Senate, the candidate told Gregg County Republicans on Wednesday in Longview.
We need to draw a line in the sand, the Republican told some 40 party members, after recalling a Dallas Morning News editorial panel asking about the need for compromise in Washington, D.C.
At this point, I literally laughed out loud, Cruz said. If youre looking for an established moderate who will go to Washington and work across the aisle and compromise, and continue this spending and building the debt deeper ... Im not the guy.
Considered likely to wind up in a runoff with front-runner Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the race to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, Cruz is touring the state touting tea party credentials. Hes focusing remarks on Dewhurst, who in recent weeks has aimed a barrage of attack ads at Cruz.
All three of the other (leading) candidate are spending their time attacking me, he said.
Cruz, Dewhurst, Tom Leppert and Craig James lead a field of nine hoping to win the Republican nod on May 29. The winner will face one of four Democrats.
While in Longview, Cruz also mock-praised the Houston Chronicles endorsement of Dewhurst as someone who can work across the aisle.
I actually, for once in my life, agree with the Chronicle, he said. If thats what you want, Dewhurst is your guy. But, I think the stakes are too high for that. ... Theres never been a time when we had a greater need for (strong conservatism) in Washington.
Cruz pointed to grassroots support evidenced in his $5.2 million campaign chest created by more than 19,000 contributions. He contrasted that with the 2,500 contributions needed to build Dewhurst a $5.6 million war chest.

The big Texas vote is in 10 days. David Dewhurst, the Establishment choice, is a dud. I hope that Texas conservatives have plenty of yard signs and bumper magnets with Cruz’s name on them.
Most obviously a talking point for Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity on Monday.
what do the polls look like?
I’m not anywhere near Texas but Ted Cruz has been endorsed by Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, and other people I respect. Although I can’t vote for him I hope he wins the nomination - and the election.
The only polls I’ve seen were released by the Dewhurst campaign, which I take with a grain of salt.
“Im not anywhere near Texas but Ted Cruz has been endorsed by Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, and other people I respect. Although I cant vote for him I hope he wins the nomination - and the election.”
Very well-stated.
Nowadays a person campaigning to be elected to the U.S. Senate as a conservative is like someone applying for a position in a whorehouse and promising to remain a virgin.
No one is questioning the person’s integrity going in. It’s just that after getting the position, how do they propose to demonstrate they’re doing a good job?
I’m in Texas, and we have been putting yard signs all around, and talking him up to just about everyone with whom we come in contact.
Last night, we got a call from Sarah—LOL We could listen, but not talk back-—but she is sure all for Ted Cruz!
We heard him speak at a TEA party express stop here in Austin, and he had a very good speech. We’re convinced that he’s the real deal.......
That is why the RINO Spector said “That Cannibals were Devouring the Senators.” That didn't get enough play in the MSM.
Yeah!!! I am one of those cannibals and it was a tasty win for the Tea Party
later
Why come right out swinging and the real conservative in the race, our Lt. Governor David Dewhurst by calling him names?
We really don’t need these people from other states who are trying to build their own political machine to call our good conservatives names while backing just another Harvard trial lawyer for a Texas Senate seat.
My wife and I voted for Ted Cruz yesterday. (Our rural county has early voting on Saturday.)
He has got to make the runoff!!!
“Cruz pointed to grassroots support evidenced in his $5.2 million campaign chest created by more than 19,000 contributions. He contrasted that with the 2,500 contributions needed to build Dewhurst a $5.6 million war chest.”
Hmmm appears that 19,000 contributors expect Cruz to represent them, while 2,500 contributors expect Dewhurst to work for them.
We don't need 'more business as usual' in the Senate.
We have that view here in Texas and that is why even though the GOP dominates, it gets nothing done.
Too concerned about being nice to the Democrats.
Wife and I voted last Tuesday for Ted Cruz. No compromising with America hater, Barack Hussein Obama or his traitor, Democrat Party.
