George Lucas might build affordable housing
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 5/20/12 | Phillip Matier, Andrew Ross, Chronicle Columnists

"Star Wars" creator George Lucas could, indeed, make good on his idea of building affordable housing right next door to the high-income NIMBYs who blocked his plans for a production studio near his Lucas Valley ranch complex.

His Marin County neighbors and conservationists have dismissed Lucas' musings as sour grapes, and say low-income housing could never be built in such a remote and environmentally sensitive location.

But those in the know disagree.

There's a feeling on the Board of Supervisors, which has final say over the project, that it fits into the county's desire for more low-income housing - and by the way, the land is already zoned for residential use.

The real question may not be political approval - it's whether Lucas can raise the money to make the project work.

Building is something Lucas appears to be very fond of doing, according to officials in San Anselmo, who say he is constantly buying properties around his home there and fixing them up.

He even buys commercial properties, tears them down and replaces them with miniparks.

Now if they could just get some section 8 housing right next to Nancy Pelosi’s vineyard in the Napa valley. Liberals are the purest hypocrites. They will move and trash up another area of the country with their failed policies ie Oregon and Montana.

Exactly my thought too...

I’d say houses under a quarter million.

“whether Lucas can raise the money” ???

George Lucas ought to have enough of his own cash to build several developments.

He’s a liberal. That means he doesn’t want to use his own money.

hehe...or something more annoying like JarJar-Wood, Ewokitown, Wookieville. Who wouldn’t want to live in Wookieville? “Hey, where are you from?....”

If so,Mr.Lucas is about to learn some valuable lessons that might well convert him to a conservative.

Marin County is commonly known as one of many communes of rich, government connected socialists, who claim to be the great taxpayers. Big revenues in, little droppings of revenues out. Have fun. Enjoy the slide. NIMBYs, go back to southern and eastern Europe.

Residential real estate prices will be falling for at least twenty years, as we Baby Boomers croak. The socially leftist majority continue to conduct themselves as if they will live forever (spoiled rotten and robbing others through politics).

60 years ago Marin Co...terra Linda...Lucas valley...were dairy farms. Petaluma was the egg capitol of the world, or so they claimed. I know I grew up there in San Rafael. It was a lovely, rural bedroom community of San Francisco.

Sauce for the gander, folks. The first local articles on this matter had no end of liberal bleating about how the new studio would damage the environment, “the community”, you name it, and it would be oh so much better if “somebody” could use his land for residential housing instead. Well, here’s their holy grail of residential housing.
