I'm no Obama fan, but isn't that quote attributed to Rev. Wright rather than to Obama?
So if one tries to pin the quote on Obama, he can counter that he's no longer connected to Wright nor his church.
They are Wright's words but they are quoted in Dreams. There are only two reasons to quote another person's words: to support your own position, or to use the word's to undermine the person and position of the writer/speaker. It is clear from the context in which this quote appears that they are used in Dreams to represent the author's own position.

That quote is indeed from Wright, not Obama. But if I’m not mistaken, Wright said this as part of his sermon entitled “The Audacity of Hope,” which was the first sermon heard by Obama at Wright’s church, and which made such an impression on Obama that he (i) joined Wright’s church and (ii) named his second book “The Audacity of Hope.” So “the white man’s greed runs a world in need” made quite an impression on Obama.
BTW, Wright made such an impression on Obama that he chose Wright as his spiritual mentor and later had him baptize Sasha and Malia, but that was not attributable solely to that first sermon.
Thanks justiceseeker93.
Thanks for the ping!
I thought the quote originally came from Malcolm X...
