The Obama administration ordered federal, state and local officials Thursday to adopt zero tolerance for prison rape as it issued mandatory screening, enforcement and prevention regulations designed to reduce the number of inmates who suffer sexual victimization at the hands of other prisoners and prison staff.
The regulations were announced only minutes after the Justice Department unveiled a new survey of former state and local prisoners that showed that almost one in every 10 reported at least one incident of sexual victimization by prison staff or other inmates.
The regulations are immediately binding on federal prisons. States that don't fall in line face a loss of 5 percent of their Justice Department prison money.
The new regulations would require detention facilities to incorporate the "unique vulnerabilities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and gender nonconforming inmates into training and screening protocols."

Why the hell are prisoners so unsupervised and prisons so disorderly, that sexual shenanigans and rape can occour in the first place? Those people aren’t there to party. Who runs these places? Don Knotts?

Have a camera installed in every jail cell and shower. For those who are caught with rape in jail, they are to be excecuted IMMEDIATELY by the firing squad.
They could always stune their back door beebers with tasers for 10 minutes per rape. The next one would be 20 minutes.
That would fix the overcrowding problem.

Because they are understaffed and prisons are like small cities. It was me and 150 inmates in a county jail. Imagine the prison ratio..

Glad to see that the anti-rape posters showed up first on this thread, instead of that weird type that seems to like the idea of prisoners being raped.
I have always wondered about the guys that seem to get into forced male sex as long as they can talk about it in terms of prisoners.

Exactly. If there can be a camera at every traffic light, there can be one in every room and hallway of a prison. Oh, but wait. There is no revenue to be gained from that.
Prison should be -only- some time sequestered from the rest of society. There is no excuse for allowing the beatings, rapes and murders that happen in prison. We don’t sentence people to that. It shouldn’t be happening in prison.

I agree. Criminals should be sentenced to the time they deserve, and not be exposed to “extra punishment” such as homosexual rape.
Prison should be all solitary confinement, no TVs, no Radios....no gyms or other areas for prisoners to congregate.
