Last October, news broke that Shorter University, a Christian college in Rome, Georgia, had decided to ask its employees to sign a controversial pledge that affirms that they are not engaging in homosexuality, among other forbidden activities. Now, after scores of employees refused to sign the document, the college, which is affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention, has reportedly received a massive number of resignations

Baptists believe it is Biblical, at least to my understanding. I, like you, would disagree, but to each his own. I find non-drinking Christians an easy mark for humor or debate but remind myself that it is a sincerely held belief on their part and it's really a minor issue anyway.
I'm not in agreement with their theological position on total abstinence (I personally don't drink but I believe the Bible only allows me to condemn drunkenness, not drinking per se) but Baptists in America have a very long history on this issue and this is a lot less strict than many other historic stances on abstinence.
But back on track — this is a Baptist college. They have every right in the world to enforce their understanding of Scripture. Same if it were Roman Catholic, Lutheran, or any other theological position. From the resignation of the librarian and other staff, it seems obvious the problem was not just drinking but rather homosexuality and similar major problems.
Okay. The pledge didn’t include those acts or the word sodomy.
Well, the Song of Solomon clearly wasn’t written about sex for procreation only. Just saying.
God wants us to have a fantastic, satisfying and loving sexual relationship with our husbands/wives. This glorifies Him, as He created it to be enjoyed.
Also, a woman can get pregnant in other positions besides missionary—that sperm will find that egg on her back, on her stomach, or with one foot in the lamp shade. ;^)
“But then, what about gossips, liars, thieves, people with critical attitudes? Those are sins too, and just as damaging.”
When did God level their cities?
I think many such codes of conduct include other things besides sexual issues; “scandalous behavior” acts as a good catch-all in such matters.
Good riddance to the whole cesspool of genetic chaff.

I agree to adhere to and support the following principles (on or off FR):
1. I will be loyal to the mission of FreeRepublic as a Christ-centered website.
2. I will not engage in the use, sale, possession, or production of illegal drugs, while on FR.
3. I reject as acceptable all sexual activity not in agreement with the Bible, including, but not limited to, premarital sex, adultery, and homosexuality, while on FR.
4. I will not use alcoholic beverages in the presence of FReepers, and I will abstain from serving, from using, and from advocating the use of alcoholic beverages on FreeRepublic.
I will not post on FreeRepublic when I have consumed alcohol within the last six hours. Neither will I promote or encourage the use of alcohol. I have read and agree with FreeRepuplic's new posting guidlines. I understand that failure to adhere to these guildlines will get me zotted by Viking Kitties and I will be going to hell.
Unfortunately, I will no longer be able to post to FR for a multidude of.....errrr, reasons. ;)
There are a lot of people who don’t drink. Did that story say that Jesus himself drank the wine? Even if he did he didn’t have a faculty event afterward.
Apparently you can’t be a waiter/waitress in an establishment that serves booze.
Jesus paid taxes. Of course, he performed an amazing miracle to do it for him and Peter.
So you are saying that if I get a nice relaxing Lewinsky from my wife a couple of times a month, the Bible, and by extension (no pun intended) this college, is OK with that??
So let's say I'm a single or married man that doesn't use drugs or engage in homosexual activity. If I take my wife or a date to dinner and we decide to have a cocktail with our meal I'm in violation of university policy?
No thanks. A little over the top don't you think?
;^) Je suis content que vous avez apprécié!
If the Christian Freepers who are really intensely involved in opposing the homosexual agenda gave it some thought, they would realize that placing homosexual sex on the same proscription list as having a beer at a ball game does NOT reflect favorably on their cause.
Not really. You don’t have to work there. You can work at a secular job.
