A Detroit groundskeeper, who turned in a loaded handgun he found hidden in weeds while working, was fired by the Wayne County Department of Public Services, MyFoxDetroit.com reports.
John Chevilott, who is just two years shy of retirement, found the loaded snub-nosed revolver on May 3 when he and his crew were mowing a lawn in Wayne County. Chevilott secured the gun, waiting for police to drive by so he could hand it over to them.

Eric Holder’s people love zero tolerance because it enables them to even the score with non-Eric Holder’s people.

After he wins the lawsuit, John Chevilott will not have to worry about his retirement. But those who fired him will.

The guy in the photo looks like he’s 20 or more years shy of retirement age. His union stew will have him back on the payroll by tomorrow with a big pay raise for such an outrageous discharge.

Went to the Fox News Detroit site and read the comments - those people are on fire and RED HOT!
Wayne County has screwed-up royally on this issue. Not one kind word for the bureaucrats who fired Mr.Cheviott. All of the comments say the fired employee, with only two years left before retirement, should sue the county.
Mr.Cheviott probably saved a child from picking up a loaded gun, and who knows! That gun may have been used in the commission of a crime.

You can bet the next groundskeeper who finds a handgun will quietly pocket it and keep on mowin’. Maybe later on even trade it for a few bucks later on.

Interestingly enough, police said he did the right thing.
Sounds like the union screwed one of their own to eliminate those coming retirement costs.

They fired him because they did not want to pay his retirement i’ll bet...

His boss, his boss’s boss and his boss’s boss’s boss should all be fired and stripped of pension rights. Three levels of management morons.

His immediate boss was suspended for 3 days for knowing about it and not doing anything about it.

The guy in the photo looks like hes 20 or more years shy of retirement age. That was my thought as well until I realized that, since he works for a government agency, he can probably retire at a younger age than people working in the private sector can.

His boss was suspended for 30 days. It’s his boss’s boss and above..
To: SatinDoll
And the irony...is when he sues. The citizen's of the county/state will have to pay ALL the fines, judgments, fee's, etc....
And no politician, bureaucrat, or city/state employee will suffer any monetary damage or lose their job.

Sounds like the union screwed one of their own to eliminate those coming retirement costs. On the job for 23 years, his pension benefits are vested and can't be lost. Somebody screwed up royally in firing him. He'll come out of this smelling like a rose.
