Fox News Analyst: First American To Shoot Down A Domestic Spy Drone 'Will Become A Folk Hero'
Business Insider ^ | 5/15/2012 | Michael Brendan Dougherty

Posted on 05/15/2012 1:38:34 PM PDT by JohnKinAK

Charles Krauthammer, the conservative columnist spoke about the use of drones for domestic spying last night.

He blasted the idea:

"A drone is a high-tech version of an old army. It ought to be used in Somalia to hunt bad guys but not in America. Yes you can say we have satellites, we have Google Street, we have everything else, but that is no reason to accept a society where you are always watched by the government.

"I would predict the first guy who uses a second amendment weapon to bring a drone down who is hovering over his house will become a folk hero."

Drones are military equipment. Isn't it a violation of Posse Comitatus to use drones over the United States against its citizens?

You're funny. Violation of laws, oh that's rich.

I wonder how this might affect a drone:

I think that’s why Shep Smith is so worried about them.

I have no issue with shooting down a domestic drone. Caught or not.

Wow, did you see the recoil pushing the chopper back?

Yeah, I did. Bet that FN FiveSeven pistol would be just the ticket - low recoil, high capacity magazine and with a bit of ingenuity, sufficiently armor-piercing to ventilate a surveillance drone.

Google the R/C heli with the AA-12... that's kind of nuts, but in an inspiring sort of way.

As fast as you take one out, I’ll get another one up to check your gas mileage/consumption. :0)

Assuming you have an old tubetype radio set out in the barn somewhere, what you need is an ordinary 3 ft fluorescent light bulb (not one of those curly cue things though).

You carefully remove the ends, or cut large holes in them ~ then you place two small mirrors (maybe 1.5 X 1.5 inches) at each end and scratch a pinhole sized clear spot on one of them.

You hook up the RF stage of that old radio to a copper coil. One design has a 1/4 diameter copper tube carrying the signal for you.

You place the copper coil around the light at about midpoint.

Go the next stage and pump in some pure CO2 (through a hole with valve (a fish tank valve will do) into that tube.

You will need a relief valve at the other end to let the CO2 push out the air, and other intert materials.

PLug in the radio.

Oh, first, get some really heavy duty sunglasses that STOP infrared because your brand new MASER will be broadcasting a coherent signal at Infrared frequencies out through that pinhole.

Obviously peak power on this puppy isn't going to be all that good but you can add coils and more RF stages from old tube type radios ~ or maybe even take a radar gun and output an RF signal from it into the coils (just like any broadcast antenna).

With a little practice you should be able to use this device to set fire to pesky things ~ and it's invisible ~ not at all like those tacky red light and green light lasers.

Best of all nobody will see you buy the parts.

The patents are expired on this design.

I figure a good goose load should do it!

Looks like others are already thinking along those lines.

“He said they have the ability to see through walls.”

I guarantee you that the technology exists and they will never willingly tell us about it. Several years ago, a few private overseas firms came out with backscatter vans that can see through vehicles and homes. They can even detect what materials objects are made from. The government's secret toys are 10-20 years ahead.

They are probably very close or already able to see in 3D through walls. A drone could circle a building, send back raw radar data and have it converted to a 3D image by a powerful datacenter. 24/7, 3D surveillance is not too far off.

The days of civilization or privacy are numbered. Enjoy it will you can, FRiend...

Many of the units that fly the RPV's are ANG units. They can fly in Title 10 (active duty) or Title 32 (active Guard) statuses. The Posse Comitatus would apply to them while in Title 10 status and flying RPV's over the states to enforce the law...but to circumvent that...all they would have to do is fly in Title 32 status.

I'm not a jag...but my guess is that is what they would do. That is how guardsmen are armed up after natural disasters to keep the peace: They are in Title 32 (State Active Duty) status.

Or foul the frequency with noise and watch the thing make a soft failsafe landing.

Sure, but obeying the Constitution, following the law, giving a flying fig does NOT matter to this admin. They have put themselves above the law and are creating their own...probably at the behest of the U.N.

It’s completely illegal to use without a search warrant or what not. These drones are virtually automatically. They might as well launch missiles around ready to kill anyone with the push of a button.

Funny, people here don’t seem to object much to clandestine arrest and indefinite detention via NDAA; or, complete surveillance via (falled) SOPA or the newly passed CISPA.

Big talk about drones though.

Ground penetrating radar can "see" down to nearly the upper mantle.

Obviously it's possible to see just about everything on the surface inside or outside of a building, or even a deep cave or mine.

And be arrested and thrown under the jail when the last image from the drone is John Doe pointing a shotgun at the drone.

Because it would be impossible for him to have a mask or bandana or something to cover his face...

But he'll be a hero.

Damn straight he will. Some of us are getting tired of this police-state bullshit.

Hilarious!

And Mr. Hindi thinks "my actions were not the cause of danger, because nothing ever goes wrong with my ideas".

"Steve Hindi, president of SHARK... said his group was preparing to launch its Mikrokopter drone to video what he called a live pigeon shoot...

Seconds after it hit the air, numerous shots rang out," Hindi said in the release. "As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter."

It is important to note how dangerous this was, as they were shooting toward and into a well-travelled highway," Hindi stated

According to the report, Hindi told the responding deputy the group's remote-controlled aircraft "was hovering over U.S. 601 when he heard a shot come from the wood line. The shot sounded to him that it was of small caliber."

The incident report went on to state that "once shot, the helicopter lost lift and crash landed on the roadway of U.S. 601."
