A New York Times/CBS News poll released Monday night shows the possible political perils of President Obama's recent announcement that he supports same-sex marriage.
Most of those polled say the president's position will not impact how they vote. But among those who say it will influence their choice, 26 percent said they are less likely to vote for Obama as a result, while 16 percent say they are more likely to.
And in what is expected to be a tight race, "even a small shift in swing states could be costly."
Also troubling for the president, is that a majority of voters suspect that his decision was politically motivated.

The general election is more then five months away and this issue will almost drop off the radar. Voters have notoriously short memories.
They will not believe the economy turned around under Obama even if it did so they will now flock to Romney who at the very least they trust.
...Clinton found out that sucking up to the homosexual Leftists was a loser and pulled out just in time.
However, Obama’s got himself locked in and is going down because of it.
(lotsa double meanings ain't dere?)
What I am curious about,is to know how, hussein obama barak,
muslim base feels towards Gay Mariage.
Will muslim cleric allow gays to maryin mosques ?
we hear a lot about the Christian reactions but not about the muslim ones.
Here in Europe we have the same debate, and here in Europe we also don´t know about muslims reactions.
In Europe they are planning to force churches to bless gay weddings, but, will not do the same for mosques, is that the same in he USA ?
I challenge Gays to force mosques to perform gay mariages. They will see the reactions of the muslims.
I am not even sure he wants a second term. From the beginning when he ran, I don’t think he really was going to President especially as early as it happened. Whether you do 4 years or 8 years, you receive the same Presidential Retirement and then write a book and other things you get to do. I am convinced he does not want to be reelected.
I think you are correct.. the most deleterious portions of Obamacare start just in time for the next President. By design the next prez, short of a Reagan will be an utter failure. Look at their timely stance on student loans if you need further proof they have successfully gamed the system.
You maybe right and he needed to go out appeasing at least one sector of his dying base.
Experience has taught me otherwise. If further evidence is required just look back at the Republican primary where candidate after candidate has made a big splash, moved ahead in the polls and then came crashing down. All of this action took place in a matter of weeks if not days. I suspect at most one elector vote will demonstatively affected by this issue.
If the unabated murder of babies in the womb won’t hurt him, this will not either. It is a pipe- dream to think otherwise.
The general election is more then five months away and this issue will almost drop off the radar. Voters have notoriously short memories. The issue might simmer down but it will never be gone. Look at how it keeps cropping up on state ballots.
And the perception is there to stay.
This isn't a huge negative for Obama, because most of his base cares only about the transfer payments... but it is a negative. A net negative. It was a stupid move on his part and I'm glad he made it.
Polls over along periods confirm that the population is approximately equal with the margins shifting back and forth on the abortion issue and it is highly unlikely that it was a major factor in any presidential election in years. In a related issue this year that became a issue and is now rarely mentioned is the administration forcing Catholic organizations to health insurance including coverage contrary to Catholic beliefs. My observations have no connection to my beliefs but are meant to be as objective as possible.
I never accused Obama as being bright - dim yes.
That ios how I feel.
If the masses of people who support Obama have looked at his record as President, his attitude toward the unborn, his bowing to foreign leaders, his cutting the military and flying around all over the country for the last 4 years and still vote for him, his being four square for Homosexuals will not bother them in the least.
Why even the Catholic contingent, Hoyer, Pelosi, Biden, Reid ,and Sebelius readily accept Obama’s stance on homosexuals. Of course when Obama say’s jump they all look like they are on pogo sticks.
This is a BS answer given by hardcore Obama supporters. Show me someone who was going to chose Romney over Obama, but has now changed their mind because of this?
>> Voters have notoriously short memories.
If the GOP had the spine and the character, they could work to *keep* the issue front and center.
But we all know they have neither spine nor character.
If they don't get homo-"marriage" after all this, who here seriously thinks that they won't have laid the irreversible groundwork for "civil unions," i.e. homo-"marriage?"
