Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

My maternal Uncle, Major John T. Dowd, USA, served in all four Airborne Divisions during his long career. He started out in the Cavalry in the early 30's, served with the 82nd Airborne in WWII, with the 101st in Korea, and had boots on the ground in 'Nam in the late 50's. Can't remember what outfit he was with then - was with Special Forces in their formative years. Four Purple Hearts. He retired in 1960 and served as a Superintendent of U.S. National Cemeteries in Annapolis, MD, Winchester, VA and Hampton, VA until shortly before his death in 1991. He was like a second father to me and one of my greatest heroes.
