“If there were no ‘non preppers’ You would not have your supplies. Whiney bitches.”

You must be one of those habitual rock throwers on prep threads. Like I told you on another thread, it’s a choice. You choose to sit, we choose to prep. You do your thing, we do our thing. Simple.

You seem to be unhappy. Maybe a counselor would help you.

If push comes to shove, a community of tens of thousands can find a way to deal with 100 gangbangers.

If you can organize 10,000 people then you have it made. Even a 1,000 would be enough if your community is still the biggest fish in the pond.

A lone prepper, on the other hand, would be out of luck.

Yes, that is true. A lone wolf still can survive, but a lone wolf with kids and wife and things has not much of a chance in the long term. IMO, prepping gives you only few things, such as:

It is important to remember that the "larger community" has only what its members have. So if nobody preps then your whole 10,000 strong group will be hungry. Lack of supplies is a physical, material fact, and no organizing can grow a cow in a week. Those supplies have to come from somewhere. Perhaps there are hunters in your community and plenty of deer around the town; perhaps someone knows how to fish with a net and there are fishing boats available; but if not then you are still hungry, even if you have thousands of people at your command.

take the water you use to soften the beans overnight and drink it.

Same with water boiled to soften the beans.

or you could use the water for your rice. The great thing about rice and beans is they are chock full of H20 that you put into them so you will have a nearly full rate of return for digestion and absorption.

The food you should ignore if you can are any meats off the hoof. The require a tremendous amount of water to digest.

Best to stick to wings or fish. Easy to digest and require very little water for digestion.

In fact, fish requires only the water it contains for digestion.

Don't do that. It contains the tri-saccharides and the breakdown products that WILL cause gastric distress.

You may lose more water from the screaming sh@ts than you gain from the liquid.

Distill it, and it would be ok.

I didn't read that in the article.

Well, I did, and I'm saying something about it. If you can't deal with that, you might be better off at a prepper forum where only the likeminded post. As far as I know, prepperism isn't part of the FR mission statement. It's not a community value here and is fair game for criticism, especially when it's associated with an obnoxious article like the one that was posted.

I use to keep a large aloe plant in my kitchen window. snap off a piece and the slimmy stuff within the plant is what is used for burns.

Amen. Every single kitchen I worked in while in the US, I took an aloe vera plant to donate to the kitchen. Military and commercial kitchens, both. Aloes love the fluorescent lights, and the cooks learn to love the plants.

If you live in a rural area, the Tractor supple store has all kinds of anti-biotics and pills for live stock....When I had the farm the refrigerator looked like something from the doctors office....for example: penicillin used on cattle and other live stock is the same as your doctor uses...You just need the sterile needles and the dosage goes by weight...sulfa in pill form is also available. A lot of city folks aren’t aware of this source for storage...each bottle has an expiration date, but in a pinch that just means it has lost some of its potency...usually a bottle of 100ml of penicillin is good for a couple of years under refrigeration... I ordered all my stuff from a vet catalog. Any one that raises livestock has such things on hand...I box of 100 needles and syrings are not that expensive from a vet catalogue.....

Canned broth is part of my preps. We have lots of water, but in a low-to-no-power situation, it will be either hand pumped or hauled. Aldis or Shurfine usually have plain chicken or beef broth for around 60 cents/can.

When I was researching Cowboy Beans recipes, they stated that the old cooks used to save all the coffee dregs to add to the boiling water for the beans. It does taste good and they were out West, so I assume they were also saving water.

...my history includes living in a shack in the woods on a mountain without power for over two years...

Ever written about that experience? I would think it would be highly interesting.

My fridge use to be the same, back when I was dealing with a lot of critters. My vet was very good and made house calls to the city for our critters there, just like she did for our critters in pastures.

We once got a bill for 2 dogs, 2 catz and 47 assorted rabbits, bucks, mothers and babies for a house call.

It was about $50 and the dogs and catz all got shots and she gave me meds for a case of wry neck that had shown up in the rabbits.

Country vets are cool people.

Coffee is actually one of my 'secrets' for my BBQ sauce and for my beans. You can't actually taste the coffee, but it does add a depth of flavor to the liquid.

Almost every day here on FR when I was living it on the old ATRW thread.

It ended badly during a blizzard.

But I retain the skill-sets.
