The mother of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old whose death in Florida earlier this year ignited a controversy over "Stand Your Ground" self-defense legislation, taped a Web video in time for Mother's Day to advocate for policy change.
In the video, released Friday by the Second Chance on Shoot First campaign, Sybrina Fulton urges viewers to send Mother's Day cards to governors nationwide, particularly in the 26 states that have passed "Stand Your Ground" laws, urging them to "re-examine" the legislation.
"This will be my first Mother's Day without my son, Trayvon," Fulton says in the video. "On Sunday, I'm going to say a prayer for other mothers across America who share this unbearable pain. Just like me, 30,000 mothers lost their children this year to senseless gun violence. Nobody can bring our babies back, but it would bring us some comfort if we can spare other mothers the pain that we will feel on this Mother's Day, and every day for the rest of our lives."

Maybe she shouldn’t have raised her kid to be a punk.
And so the pesky meme keeps on getting propagated about a law which did NOT figure in the altercation between T and Z. Shameful.
Sooo, can I Stand My Ground with a baseball bat, knife, rock, fists.........?
Seems to me that this is a defacto admission that her son was the aggressor and placed Zimmerman in a position where “Stand Your ground” applies. Just a thought.
They need to civilize their kids before they let them out of the house.
Give it up Mom, the Stand Your Ground laws, just like your son, ain’t going nowhere anytime soon....
Sorry for your loss but all human beings are entitled to defend themselves.
Stand you ground is just basic self defense common sense.
However in the situation Z couldn’t possibly have been expected to go run and hide. Not with someone slamming your lid on the ground and grabbing for your gun.
If she got accosted by a mugger, would she really think the same thing was right? That she had to try and go run and hide from the mugger before blowing the mugger away?
Does she really understand what the law means, or just been told what to say by sharptons/jacsons/ets? Any action against blacks is racist, regardless of laws - isn’t it already?
O.K. Lady.
We will pass a law forbidding anyone to own a gun and making it illegal for anyone to defend themselves.
That will make everything o.k., right??
I detect the fine hand of Winnie Brady and her gang behind this, prostituting a personal tragedy into a poltiical advantage - or trying to.

Guess its time for more letters. And phone calls. And e-mails.
If someone attacks you, it’s best to just let them harm/murder you.
Otherwise someone might get their feelings hurt and we couldn’t have that.
Now go pay your taxes - your government is broke. :)

Well...how about you raise your kids with a sense of personal responsibility, and teach them right from wrong. Maybe the fault lies with you and your child rearing skills...
Hmmmm, didn’t her offspring sit cold on a slab for a few days before he was even claimed?
Did this “mom” tell the cops he was missing that evening?
Or the following evening?
Or the next evening?
Didn’t think so.
I do feel a little bad for mom...
I bet he would have stolen something really nice for her
If I’m ever beaten up by a black man I know the right thing to do is let him do it. If I die, so what! At least that proves I’m not a racist.
