Romney: Gay couples should have right to adopt
The Washington Post ^ | May 10, 2012 | Felicia Sonmez

Posted on 05/10/2012 6:38:57 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) said Thursday that he believes gay couples should be allowed to adopt children, even as he reiterated his view that marriage is defined as a relationship between a man and a woman.

In an interview with Neil Cavuto of Fox Business Network, Romney was asked whether he believes the gay marriage debate is a new civil rights movement, as some Democrats have framed the issue.

“I don’t see it in that light,” Romney responded. “I believe my record as a person who has supported civil rights is strong and powerful. At the same time, I believe that marriage has been defined the same way for literally thousands of years by virtually every civilization in history and that marriage is by its definition a relationship between a man and woman.”

He added that “if two people of the same gender want to live together, want to have a loving relationship, even want to adopt a child — in my state, individuals of the same sex are able to adopt children. In my view, that’s something which people have the right to do, but to call that marriage is, in my view, a departure from the real meaning of the word.”

I am lost, one day is sunshine, and next day is cloudy day. I am living of days of Noah and Sodoma and Gomora. Can this people finally say, I am against law of God. My, dear Lady, this is so obvious. So, only words I can say: Forgive them for they don’t know what they’re doing. Unfortunately they do. Lion is roaring and devouring and so few are left.

Four years ago, never in my wildest imagination, could I imagine the GOP would be serving up a candidate even worse than McCain.

________

As soon as Obama was declared the winner I had the sense of utter dread and certainty that Romney was “next”. It’s been like rooting for a Little League team to beat the Yankees, that day of dread has arrived. I can barely pay attention, I won’t watch the debates, convention or any political shows, etc. Disaster, thy name is Mitt.

In the event that I hold my nose and vote for Romney, once he takes office, I will work to make sure he is not the GOP nominee in 2016, assuming he beats Obama.

I liken it to fumigating the White House....you have to use poison to get the bugs out.....but you need to get that poison out ASAP, after you kill the bugs.

No this is Mitt, the Severe Conservative, talking here. Did you not see the video? Please google it. Mitt said he supports gay adoption.

Yes. But tell me.....where in the HELL are we to go, here? The RNC (in their faggotry) have provided us with a crappy candidate (yet, again....just like McLame). The Tea Party is knocking off the lower level candidates as hard as they can (and that’s where it begins). The Commies have done it for YEARS in this country at all LEVELS. It starts with the ‘bottom up’. Local, State, National.

Mark Levin had a GREAT segment, tonight, about that very thing. We need to get a tow-hold and think down the line. The Fabians are experts at this and have been doing this for decades . Everything “gradually”. Time to fight fire with fire.

icwhatudo: “One candidate is a capitalist who is against homosexual marriage but for homosexual adoption...”

Just wait. I bet it gets worse.

My take on Governor Romney’s comments? I think he’s very carefully parsing his words. Note that he’s for equal rights but carefully defines marriage to mean a man and woman. It sure sounds to me like he supports same-sex civil unions, with all the rights and benefits of marriage, that are literally marriage in all but name (sort of like Mitt Romney is a Democrat in all but party name). He just opposes calling that “marriage.”

I have always been a very loyal Republican vote until now. I fully expected Mitt’s campaign to be one disappointment after another, and in that sense, it’s the only way he has failed to disappoint.

I feel that your post makes no sense. You use economic terms mixed with a mathematical equation, but I do not have a clue what you are talking about.

There is a suplus of good people willing to adopt who are heterosexual. Also state mandates for homo adoption force Catholic adoption agencies out of business.

The game show host you're thinking of is Chuck Woolery, I've always said that about Mittens, lol.

I agree with you. In fact:

No one expects him to do an about-face on marriage, but Cooper says Romney may well soften his tone or shift emphasis. There have been hints of that already. Romney restated Thursday that he thinks it's fine for gay couples to adopt children. On Wednesday, Romney called gay marriage a "tender" issue and chose his words carefully about civil unions.

"I don't favor civil unions if they're identical to marriage other than by name. My view is that domestic partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights and the like are appropriate," Romney said.

"Essentially he was trying to put forward language that left the door open," says Cooper, who says it's always the way politicians start evolving.

"Yes. But tell me.....where in the HELL are we to go, here?""

To the Convention and raise HELL! As a previous freeper posted, how can you be against gay marriage but be for gay adoption? Gay adoption is much worse, because unlike the gay adults the kids are innocent. I'm sorry, I can't contort my beliefs enough to vote for this man who won't stand up for kids. Can't do it, I gotta tap out!

What makes me sad is the FReepers jumping on the WaPo’s bait. They know that Romney said something to unite the base for him this week and Obama screwed up royally, so this and many soon-to-be-published articles will come out to re-divide the base.

Don’t fall into the media’s playbook. We’re smarter than that.

I don’t know if Chuck Woolery is a conservative or not, but every time I see Mitt, I think of Chuck Woolery, minus the wit and charm, and if you’re right the conservatism too!

I liked Love Connections, but Mitt turns my stomach, he might be even smarmier and more self serving than Bill Clinton, and that’s saying something. I’m sure those two are great friends.

Oh really? Are you? I can’t tell you how many cases were we were told there are no adoptive children available. I would love to see how many mouth-offs here would open up just one fracking room of their lives to a baby who would be killed other wise. Piss off if life is worth less than the challenges of a sin lifestyle that isn’t even the top ‘ten’.
