About 22 percent of California's eighth-graders tested on a national science test passed, ranking the Golden State among the worst in the nation, according to figures released Thursday.
Scores from the 2012 National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the Nation's Report Card, show that too few students have the skills that could lead to careers in the field, educators said.

Unfortunately, a good portion of those who failed will go on to study political science and then go to work for the plethora of government organizations that establish policies and develop regulations that are supposedly based on scientific principles.
I’m depressed.

Must mean that the teachers are gearing up for yet another grab at the public treasury - as of course, all that is holding back these students is a lack of benefits for California’s teachers...

Our local San Diego HS has a hard time filling up one Physics class out of 2700 kids. But..they have a big media and film program complete with TV studios etc..if they didn’t have those kind of feel good programs the kids would quit and they would loose their funding.

The 20% that did well were likely home schooled or went to a private school.

But they scored very high in self-esteem! Wonder if there's a connection between being too stupid to pass a National Science Test and believing in global warming... Didn't Al Gore fail a college science class?

Wow man, 2 parts Jamaican, mix with 3 parts Colombian, and mix it up real good. Then the science gets rad man. ‘Cause you take a whole pound of butter and you melt it man, you do that with fire or the glowing red circles on the top of an electric stove, but you have to put the stuff in a pan first, or you get big mess, I know ‘cause I've done it man, takes way more work to clean it if ya’ melt the butter without a pan, man. The after that you...ummm...what was I talking about man?
