JAKARTA, Indonesia Rescuers say they have discovered bodies near the wreckage of a Russian-made passenger plane that smashed into a steep Indonesian volcano with 45 people on board.
Search and rescue spokesman Gagah Prakoso said his teams reached the remote, rugged site near the crater on Thursday afternoon.
They found the Sukhoi Superjet-100 scattered along the jungly slopes.
Family members, many of whom spent a long, sleepless night at the airport, broke down in tears on hearing the news the plane had been spotted on the side of a cliff Thursday morning. Others stared blankly ahead in disbelief.
"From the pictures we're seeing, it looks like it was a total loss," said Daryatmo, chief of the national search and rescue agency, as the first images flashed across local TV.
The Sukhoi Superjet-100, Russia's first new passenger jet since the fall of the Soviet Union two decades ago, was scattered on a steep near the top of Mount Salak, a volcano just 30 miles southwest of Jakarta. The company's blue-and-white logo peeked through the dense canopy of trees.
The location will hamper efforts to evacuate victims, said Gagah Prakoso, adding they will have to be pulled to a hovering helicopter by ropes and nets.

"Twenty-one minutes after takeoff, the crew asked for permission to decline from 10,000 feet to 6,000 feet, said Daryatmo, chief of the national search and rescue agency.
The plane fell off the radar immediately afterward.
It was not clear why the Russian pilot and co-pilot asked to drop down, especially when it was so close to the 7,000-foot-high mountain, or if they got the OK."
...their technology is starting to suck like before....time to fire up the old spy services to steal Western advances again.
Its "Welcome Asia!" tour, which also included stops in Pakistan, Myanmar and Kazakhstan, was intended to drum up support.
Sunaryo from PT. Trimarga Rekatama, the company that helped organize Wednesday's event, said 47 people were on board, many of them potential buyers and journalists.,
Well this is a fine How Do You Do!
Probably a salesman wanted to impress the crowd with a close flyby of the volcano and the pilot encountered turbulence and went down.
Exactly what I was thinking when I first saw this article at 5am, HR. A return to the Soviet days of old.
It sounds like they’re not going to release the tapes any time soon, so we’ll probably never know for sure, but that’s a damned good guess.
“...47 people were on board, many of them potential buyers and journalists.”
Well, there goes all future orders and any good press about the jet.
I heard about the crash, but have not kept up with it.
There is a really great program on the National Geographic channel...”Air Crash Investigation”.
It is a super program on commercial air disasters, but it is not for the squeamish.
It is remarkable how they trace events back to months before the disaster, as they go back and pinpoint the cause, sometimes due to a failure of the maintenance crew, pilot error, but also ATC.
salesmen. they think they know everything
salesmen. they think they know everything
I also heard about it yesterday afternoon, but it disappeared off the news cycles for a while, until I saw it reappear this morning at 5am.
I’ll check that program out and see when it’s next on, AW; thanks.
RIP.
Fri, May 11th at 8pm is another episode. Thanks AW; I’ll watch it.
Sometimes it's due to an deliberate act. Don't be too surprised if among the dead are a few enemies of Putin.

Did Communism Fake Its Own Death in 1991?
American Thinker ^ | January 16, 2010 | Jason McNew
In a [] 1984 book [New Lies for Old], ex-KGB Major Anatoliy Golitsyn predicted the liberalization of the Soviet Bloc and claimed that it would be a strategic deception. ..."
"Golitsyn's argument was that beginning in about 1960, the Soviet Union embarked on a strategy of massive long-range strategic deception which would span several decades and result in the destruction of Western capitalism and the erection of a communist world government."

"Golitsyn published his second book, The Perestroika Deception, after the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991. This book contained further analysis of the liberalization, in addition to previously classified memoranda submitted by Golitsyn to the CIA. The two books must be read together to get a complete picture of Golitsyn's thesis."

The National Geo program will not have anything on a recent
crash.
They must be over a year or more, for them to have such data.
It is amazing how deep they get into a crash, and they cover the entire world.
You will see videos of people searching for the flight recorders, on land and under water, as well as full coverage of ATC exchanges with the pilots.
I have watched many of the programs, some crashes that I remember, but it is international in scope.
The one I saw this week was about the crash in Serbia, from the Clintonesta regime, where Brown was killed.
Yes, RIP, all onboard.
Did you ever see the documentary, “Grounded”, about the 5,800 commercial plane flights grounded on 9-11?
Think you’re right, c. If it doesn’t make a maiden test flight, it ain’t going nowhere commercially, no matter what the findings are.

The crash that I think you may be referring to was fully covered just a few months ago on the NG program.
Crash in Poland in 2010 of TU-154?
“Did you ever see the documentary, Grounded, about the 5,800 commercial plane flights grounded on 9-11?”
