President Obama today announced that he now supports
same-sex marriage, reversing his longstanding opposition amid growing pressure
from the Democratic base and even his own vice president.
In an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, the president
described his thought process as an “evolution” that led him to this place,
based on conversations with his own staff members, openly gay and lesbian
service members, and conversations with his wife and own daughters.
"I have to tell you that over the course of several
years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about
members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous
relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I
think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there
fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't
Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at
a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for
me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get
married,” Obama told Roberts, in an interview to appear on ABC’s “Good Morning

I was at the gym this afternoon when Obama made this announcement.
A democrat friend of mine(pro life, pro marriage, pro business, very religious) who does not like Obama and was planning on sitting out this election now plans to hold his knows while voting for Romney.
He said this nonsense must end.

Yes I’m well aware of the fanatical wish to portray Romney as pure liberal, despite his running on a conservative platform. The simple fact is that you, I and Free Republic combined don’t control reality, though you can stamp your feet and call me “darlin’ all you want.
The fact is Romney opposed gay marriage, then following the Mass. Supreme Court decision he tried to amend the state constitution with a compromise choosing civil unions. That didn’t work but whether or not Romney handled the issue perfectly, there is a clear difference with Obama on this and many issues.
A truce was called here and I want to be civil so don’t call me “darlin” and try to deal with some facts. You want to elect the one who favors gay marriage, have a party.
My comment was more intended to reflect the words in bold that were quoted, indicating that the writer of the piece was naive enough to think that Biden was exerting pressure, and I agree, but it would be he, not me, that flunks out.

I think outside of the US Northeast and US West Coast, support for same-sex marriages in the rest of the USA is barely positive to decidedly opposed. Obama might as well throw away most of the US Southeast, most of the US Midwest, and could even effect whether he could even win Indiana, Ohio and other "battleground" states.
Obamae just energized the Republican voter base and especially the Evangelical voter base to solidly vote him out of office.

I thank God that I grew up in the time when my parents never told me what a homosexual was. It was not defined in my school or my church or anywhere because I was a little kid and I didn’t need to know these things. if in fact odumbo did talk to his daughters about this shame on him. that ranks a 10 on the creep o meter.
It is interesting that you call Romney the Republican nominee when we are still in primary season and have not yet made it to convention. Cart before the horse, much?
