In a tough year for Senate campaigns, Democrats will take everything they can get.
This year's map of Senate races heavily favors the GOP, which will defend only 10 seats to Democrats' 23. Six Democratic incumbents have declined to run, and Democrats will have to defend seats in 11 competitive races, while Republicans will only defend in five.
All of which makes Sen. Dick Lugar's loss welcome news for Democrats, who seem to have figured all along that their candidate, Blue Dog Rep. Joe Donnelly, would fare better against Tea Party-backed, Saran Palin-endorsed state Treasurer Richard Mourdock in November.
Now that Mourdock has defeated the six-term senator, Democrats might have a chance at winning a seat they had otherwise written off.

Typical leftwing bloviating.
Once the lame-stream believes something, it tries to convince everyone else to join them in their delusion. Have some TEA lame-stream. TEA tastes better than kool-aid. The vote is coming lame-stream. Americans are here and Americans are coming to vote. Remember well, this yesterday. The future will come from yesterday, and the lame-stream will have seen shock and awe by the vote. I’ll be LOL.
STOP! Mitch is a great governor. Don't get worked up about his being in Lugar's ads. He's going to be replaced by Pence in the fall anyway. But he has done very well in IN as our governor. IN has a budget surplus and property taxes were recently fixed (lowered for most). I can't speak to his motives for supporting Lugar. But I suspect it was political and not necessarily personal.
Relative to the raving Marxists in the MSM, he IS a Blue Dog!
Thats the way politics work. Incumbents ALWAYS endorse incumbents from their own party in primary fights. Always. Find one exception. Even Sarah Palin (although not an incumbent) endorsed John McCain in his Senate race.
Yeah. That is the way I see it.
The ‘Pubbies MIGHT get to keep the seat AND we get to put a shot into the bow of the RINOs.
And if worse, comes to worse, we replace a Liberal ‘Pubbie with a Liberal Democrat and no real change in the way Senate votes go.
This is more like “p*ssing into the wind” and consequently this urnal-ist has p*ssed all over himself.
I thought Obammy ate all the Blue Dogs and in his word, they were delicious...
Mourdock is not Christine O'Donnell. He will beat the pants off Donnelly. It won't even be close.
Lugar's been losing it for years.
At least he's taking the high road so far on supporting his Tea Party successor, at least according to a news story this morning.
Sends a message to Mittster as well, we can make you, or we can break you, your choice.
Mitch got his start in politics working for Lugar. That's why. Note that Mitch--unlike Lugar--was very complimentary of Mourdock. Mitch said he'd support Mourdock if he won the primary. I have no reason to disbelieve him.
This guy needs to get out more. The chance of Mourdock losing in Nov. is as about the same as Romney winning a straw vote here on FR.
Nope it was totally personal. Lugar gave him his start in politics, it was loyalty to a mentor pure and simple. He has already appeared with Mourdock today.
I’m absolutely willing to give Daniels a pass on that one, too. I think Mitch knew it wouldn’t make a spit bit of difference anyway.
Rats won’t win the Senate rate or he Presidential race is Indiana. I bet Romney and Mourdock win by more than 10 pts. Obama will lose NC as well. Obama will lose VA and FL.
That is such an absurd statement, I had to click on it to read the article, if only for a few good laughs out loud.
If I ever get a job writing titles for articles, I'm going to remember this trick.
I see that John Kerry was lamenting Lugar’s loss. That speaks volumes about how RINO’ed up Lugar was.
Mr. Good is simply repeating the Democratic Party line. It was the Party line well before yesterday’s election.
