Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t all rotting vegetation create methane?
I’m thinking the same amount of methane is created whether a leaf is consumed or falls into the swamp.

That’s about the size of it.
Then the methane decomposes into CO2 and water, and then the plants pull the CO2 out of the air.

Correct me if Im wrong, but doesnt all rotting vegetation create methane? It will release some methane but also that carbon/hydrogen will get released as CO2 and H2O.
The question would be process, digestion or open air decomposition release more methane?
