The fact that the woman tries to somehow make the church liable for her hoplophobia is scary.
I hope the police are trying to find the legitimate owner. Most likely this was a simple mistake. Of course, in the insane society that is Illinois, the owner may be cowering in terror, concerned that they may be charged with some vague crime such as
“endangering public safety” or some such.
I wish I was that lucky! What an ingrate.
I can’t really blame her for contacting the police. Just have possession of a gun around these parts could lead to a lengthy prison sentence by an eager gun grabbing prosecutor.
I bet the Church did check it and any garage sale buyer knows to check bags out so I'm calling bs. Smells like she's trying to get rid of a hot gun.
you know there’s some guy hitting his forehead and saying-
DOH! that’s where I left it!
I hide things so well even I can’t find them...makes spring cleaning like a treasure hunt or an episode of American Pickers!
The poor woman’s sensibilities were offended. I’d be pretty excited if that happened to me.
Man, Cracker Jack could learn a lesson here.
I'm sure Evansville PD had nothing better to do with their time...
How does this stuff get into the papers? Most normal people would go back to the church and tell them of the discovery or keep the gun, instead of complaining to a newspaper.
I should be so lucky.
People today who think they can make a difference by telling 'whatever' story they like is exactly what's wrong with today's world.
(Gasp!!) A loaded gun? Did it jump out of the case and run down the street, firing indiscriminately, or just sit there like an inanimate object?
A loaded gun is usually pretty heavy, and should have been a clue that there was something inside the case.
Most people I know would be thrilled to find that and they would never say a word. She must be one of those “oh gosh the gun may go off” people who think guns have a mind of their own.
Smith & Wesson model 36. Worth about $400.
Lists for $749 new.
Nice find, but you have the risk of it having been used in a crime.
I’d have kept my mouth shut, but that’s just me.
Yeap, sounds to me like she got a huge bargain. I'll definitely pay more attention.
I am still hoping to find a very heavy violin case at a yard sale.
This happened in Evansville, IN - not IL
Sound like perfectly reasonable sentiments to me.
Among other things, it would be potentially possible to buy a bag containing a large quantity of a controlled substance. Always a good idea to look inside first.
Hezus H. Christi....this EBT, EITC Obama voter was crying and distraught over the thought of it! Mamaw who’d probably been on welfare since Red’s baby daddy ran off was also distraught.
Me? I’d have peed my pants when I got home and found it.
