The only core principles Mitt has, are those that concern Mitt....He would have sold out to the right, if the political conditions had been reversed.
But now, you're saying that political circumstances "will not have the slightest effect" on him, because he's committed to other beliefs. So is he just a political opportunist who will support the right as easily as the left if it advantagees him, or is he a committed lefty?

Reading Romney isn't all that complicated. To a large degree, he's a political opportunist, AND a left-liberal. The two aren't mutually exclusive, you know. Underneath even that, Romney is a self-centered egomaniac - not unlike Obama or any other malignant narcissist.
The man is simply soulless. He has no real core beliefs to guide him. In his universe, he's the only one who truly exists, and every other person is simply a toy or a tool to manipulate in his personal game.
This also explains why he's a weather vane. He doesn't need to (and can't) stick to one firm conviction on any issue, because none of that really matters to him anyway. Telling you what you want to hear at any particular time is part of his manipulative standard operating procedure. He doesn't believe any of it. It's only important to him, that you believe he believes it.
For what it's worth, I suppose the only reason Romney calls himself a Republican, is because his famous father was one. Gotta lift up the family brand, ya know. Other than that, he's got nothing in common with conservatives, or even most Republicans. Don't forget, that his father, George Romney, famously undermined Barry Goldwater in 1964. Romney the elder hated conservatives, and so does his ill begotten son.
