U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, who suffered a stroke in January, has gone home.
Kirk (R-Ill.), 52, had been hospitalized since he first suffered stroke symptoms on Jan. 21. Since February, he has been at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where his doctors said he has made steady progress and will be involved in a research project that involves more field rehabilitation than normal.
Though he will be spending nights at the homes of various relatives, his staff said, he will be reporting by day to the RIC to continue his rehab. A lift has been installed on the stairs at Kirks home at Ft. Sheridan in Highland Park.
We are happy to say that after suffering a stroke in January, Mark has progressed to the point where he can move home with his family, according to a statement from his relatives, including his mother and his sisters. He will continue to work on his recovery as an out-patient at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He has begun a rigorous walking study program to further his mobility and independence while maintaining his schedule with staff.

I wish him the best, but I know what strokes do to people. Will he be able to show up on the floor of the Senate and cast a vote? Has he made any public appearances since he had the stroke?
Yes, I know what strokes can do to people also. I think he has been in rehab for 3 months. He had a major stroke. I think we will see if Kirk is OK. He has not had any appearances as far as I know.
My Senator, glad to hear this news.
Hope the best for him.
He needs to retire if he is still in Congress.
That job requires a fully alert person, yeah I know most of them are all brain dead...but he needs to spend his time on his rehab..and with family....
NOT IN CONGRESS..sorry just my humble opinion.
He needs to stay in office until at least November. Obama will of course win Illinois and we don’t need him carrying another Democrat into the Senate.
A democrat, of course, can be in a coma for six years and win re-election. Dems have no problem casting a vote in someone else’s name.
Bingo.
As much as people like to complain about him, he made it into the senate in a GOP year. Getting another Republican in from Illinois won’t be easy.
and that goes for the Johnson out in Nebraska who works less than half a deck...
JMHO
We need him to stay in office regardless even if he can never return (which he will). The election-stealing Governor is a democrat and I expect a narrow Republican majority in the next Senate. Better an “empty seat” than having it filled with a Stalinist.
Little known fact, Robert Byrd was dead for a year before anyone noticed.
Johnson is in South Dakota.
If he runs again he’ll lose.
thanks for the correction...wasn’t sure, did follow him for awhile after his stroke but so long ago I dropped interest...
again...thanks!
just another example of our wonderful MEDIA...
if it took Kirk three months to heal well enough to go home, that tells me he is not healthy.
again JMHO
I agree that Sen. Kirk should stay in office, since he’s slightly better than anyone Gov. Quinn would appoint. I hope that a conservative is considering the race, in case Kirk decides to leave the Senate, in 2016, because of his health. Congressman Hultgren would be a good candidate.
Of course he’s not “healthy”, he had a stroke.
My great aunt was the never the same after she had one. Granted she was old when it happened to her.
I see no reason Kirk won’t be able to return to work. But even if he doesn’t, having no Senator is 100000% times better than having the piece of crap communist that Quinn would appoint.
