Embattled Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is locked in a dead heat with Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett ahead of the state's June 5 recall election, according to a new poll from Marquette University Law School.
The poll shows Barrett leading Walker among registered voters by one percentage point, 47 percent to 46 percent. Among likely voters Walker bests Barrett 48 percent to 47 percent. Both leads are the within the margin of error.
Barrett will compete against former Dane County executive Kathleen Falk for the Democratic nomination next week. According to the Marquette poll, Barrett leads Falk in that contest 38 percent to 21 percent. Two other candidate are in the single digits.
Walker became embroiled in controversy last spring after passing a controversial law that would essentially eliminate public workers' collective bargaining rights. Debate over the legislation sparked weeks of protests in the state, as well as a national conversation about the merits of collective bargaining rights for public sector workers.
According to the Marquette survey, Democratic primary voters prioritized job creation -- not labor rights -- as the top consideration in choosing a nominee. Forty-six percent of Democratic primary voters ranked creating new jobs as their top consideration.
Twenty-five percent prioritized "defeating Scott Walker," and 14 percent said "reducing political divisions in the state." Twelve percent said "restoring collective bargaining rights for public employees" was their number one consideration.

It’s a poll of registered voters (anyone with a driver’s license.) That probably indicates that Walker has a statistically-significant lead.
It’s See Bee Ess News! It is Beee Esss!!!
Go Governor, the people of Wisconsin are going to support you because your work is WORKING!
Thank you, Water. I live here too and couldn’t have said it better.
This poll is BS. Walker will carry the day..but we have to ALL get out and VOTE from him to make sure that happens.
He turns the state around and this is the thanks he gets? Godspeed Mr. Walker.
“I never new how much of a liberal cess-pool WI was before this mess.”
Wisconsin is socialist in attitude. They revere as some kind of god the socialist Robert La Follette, Sr., who began his political career in the late nineteenth century as a nominal Republican, then broke with the Republicans and formed an independent Progressive Party. He was an anti-war activist, embraced and championed organized labor, and loathed anything corporate.
If democrat voters are worried about job creation then Milwaukee mayor Barrett is definitely not the man for the job....
“The estimated declines in metro Milwaukee nearly equal the total number of jobs lost in the whole state last month - computed at 4,500 in March from February in a separate report released last week”
“The four-county metro area lost an estimated 4,400 nonfarm jobs in March from February, according to latest estimates. Metro Milwaukee encompasses Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties.”

Unemployment rate was 7.7% in Jan 2011. It is now down to 6.8% (lowest since 2008). We’re moving WI forward.

I feel that this coming recall election is like a tipping point. If Walker does not win it feels like its a clear signal that the tipping point has been reached. The amount of anti-Walker yard signs and bumper stickers are the most I’ve ever seen regarding a single election or issue. Of late though I have noticed an ever increasing amount of pro-Walker signage appearing. Have high hopes for the silent majority.
Heh, seems like the MSM is trying to either stir up Dems or make Repubs. feel bad about the way the race is going.
The denizens of Wisconsin must have a debt wish if they don’t vote for Walker.
That’s not much of a bet :-)
We have some stressful news to share with you in the campaign to DEFEAT the RECALL.

Will the Unions get behind Barrett after he beats their little darling that they are backing, and financing, in the Primary?
LOL
They obviously were trying to get a headline, not any meaningful results.
Don’t underestimate the ferocity of Wisconsin conservatives. I don’t know any conservative in the state who wouldn’t crawl over flaming, acid-filled broken glass while taking mortar fire to vote for Walker.
Even some moderates I know have said they will vote for Walker because they don’t like the disrespect for the electoral process.
A dead-heat (tie) is never good for the incumbent. 3/4 of all undecideds always go for the challenger.
RE: among registered voters
LOL

You obviously missed this sentence in the article:
“Among likely voters Walker bests Barrett 48 percent to 47 percent. Both leads are the within the margin of error.”
It’s not a CBS poll it’s a Marquette Univ. Law School poll. It’s a CBS article. I never heard of a law school doing a poll before.
It says “Among likely voters Walker bests Barrett 48 percent to 47 percent”. Does anybody know how to read any more?
What do those numbers mean in your opinion?
