EXCLUSIVE: Richard Grenell hounded from Romney campaign by anti-gay conservatives

Richard Grenell, the openly gay spokesman recently hired to sharpen the foreign policy message of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, has resigned in the wake of a full-court press by anti-gay conservatives.

In a statement obtained by Right Turn, Grenell says:

I have decided to resign from the Romney campaign as the Foreign Policy and National Security Spokesman. While I welcomed the challenge to confront President Obama’s foreign policy failures and weak leadership on the world stage, my ability to speak clearly and forcefully on the issues has been greatly diminished by the hyper-partisan discussion of personal issues that sometimes comes from a presidential campaign. I want to thank Governor Romney for his belief in me and my abilities and his clear message to me that being openly gay was a non-issue for him and his team.

I want a revolution at the convention. Romney is a lying liberal and on top of that a delusional Mormon who thinks he’s fulfilling a prophecy. He’s not conservative about anything unless maybe it’s illegals and who knows where he really stands on that.

I’m not saying I will refuse to vote for him if he really becomes the candidate. I just hope with every fibre of my being that he winds up NOT being the candidate.

You totally missed my point. You may think it was ill-advised to hire a gay advisor, but my whole point was that this is spit in the ocean compared to Obama.

His regime is rampant with gays. Most of the women surrounding him, or a lot of them, seem to be militant lesbians. A lot of the men around him and in his administration are gay. He’s gay (or so it would seem).

So why are we wasting time trashing Romney over a trifle when we should be looking at what we’ll be facing if we don’t get behind Romney.

Fact: If he isn’t elected, Obama will be.

I'm afraid you're right.

One important qualification: the secular part of the conservative movement has numerous homosexuals in prominent staff-level positions, though not usually in elected office. This is an “open secret” in Washington and numerous state legislatures, and there are probably a lot more people “in the closet” who are known only to a very small circle.

This problem isn't limited to Romney by any stretch of the imagination, and involves people who have much better conservative credentials than him.
