WASHINGTON Field workers for President Obamas campaign fanned out across the country over the weekend in an effort to confront a barrage of new voter identification laws that strategists say threaten the campaigns hopes for registering new voters ahead of the November election.
Many of the laws in question including the ones in Florida and Wisconsin are the subject of legal challenges by Democratic groups who say they are part of a partisan, Republican effort to dampen the turnout of voters, particularly members of minority groups, for Mr. Obama and his party.
But senior aides to Mr. Obama said the campaign was preparing for the laws to be upheld and in force this fall just in case.
We have to assume that these laws will be in effect in November, Jeremy Bird, the field director for the campaign, said in an interview. We are not allowing laws that are challenging and put in our way to stop us from doing what we need to do.
Campaign officials declined to put a price tag on the new efforts to comply with voter identification laws, saying the extra time and expense were being built into the budgets for each states campaign.
Four years ago, Mr. Obamas campaign used novel approaches to expand the pool of voters, including registration drives at barbershops and beauty salons in African-American neighborhoods. The campaign plans to expand those efforts, setting up voter registration outposts in those settings.
If the new state laws prevent the campaign from reaching those goals, it could cost Mr. Obama a second term.

Like collecting more illegal overseas campaign dollars then Bill Clinton ever dreamed of.
To hear the ‘Rats one would think there is a large homebody population that never gets out to perform any transaction needing photo identification — except to vote.
That is amazing isn’t it?
I don't think Canada does.

“No worries though, since they have a foreign company slated to count votes in the upcoming election, they can just commit their fraud at that level instead. It’s not like the Republicans will try to do anything about it other than look the other way”
They can also have more black panthers stationed at voting centers swinging their billy clubs and shouting epitaphs at voters since that has already been given the go ahead by holder and HIS DOJ.
Last time I went to the polls in WI (last month)nobody asked for an ID. I told them my name, they looked it up in the book with registered voters names in it. What really bothered me was that they wrote a number next to my name in the book, then wrote the same number on my ballot. I thought that elections were supposed to be by secret ballot.
Bwaaaa ha ha ha ha ha ha! Spewed coffee worth it for the laugh. As if no one knows the real reason that Demwits fear and loathe photo ID requirements for voting.
If Demwits have to present photo IDs, two out of three of them will be pictures of corpses. Demwits always field more voters than there are residents in their districts, and everybody knows it.
I'll say it again, "If you have to cheat, YOU DIDN'T WIN!"
Well, here's two that fit that category perfectly. We should check to see if they vote this November...
Yes, freshly minted Obama voters, all ready to vote three times each for the won.
I kind of like the term “freshly bagged” myself. It’s pertinent in oh so many ways...
Indeed. “Freshly bagged” it is.
How about “freshly bagged for a dumpster near you”?
