Yes, there was a plaque mounted somewhere, I have forgotten exactly where,that gave the same information that is posted in this thread, complete with the engraved image.
I am pretty sure that all Navy ships, named after a deceased service member, has a similar plaque
The USNS Brostrom was a Navy ship, assigned to Militaty Sealift Command, Far East, homeported in Yokohama. It had an all civilian, civil service crew, many whom were retired Navy or formerly active duty Navy, like me. I was 8 yrs active duty, two deployments to Viet Nam aboard USS Coral Sea CVA-43 prior to becoming employed by Military Sealift Command, Far East.
I remember, right offhand, one retired BMC who worked his way up to being a Master. Another was a retired Mustang CDR who was the Master of an UNREP Oiler. These were not unusual, MSC is full of opportunities if you like going to sea. And I enjoyed this semi-military way of going down to the sea in ships.
