Hubby and I are listening to Stephen King’s “The Stand” on audio book.

For anyone not familiar with it, it takes place after a bio-weapon is mistakenly released and almost everybody in the world is dead. And there is going to be some ultimate Stand taken against evil (or so it appears).

Anyway, the best part of the book so far concerns an extremely old black woman (108!) who is playing some BIG PART on the good side in this ultimate battle.

She is a dyed-in-the-wool Republican, actually says the FDR and his cohorts were COMMUNISTS and received on her 100th birthday a letter from President Regan congratulating her for reaching such a great age and for being the 5th oldest registered Republican in the country.

LOL, I loved that part!

My impression of Stephen King has been that he is a garden variety liberal, but you’d never know it from this book. So far, anyway.

Terrific book. The mini-series, out on DVD and starring Gary Sinise, is a pretty good adaptation, too. And Stephen King is a flaming Liberal.

Stephen King lives half the year (probably a couple more days) here in Sarasota, FL, the rest in Maine. I say probably a couple more days than half the year since, as a good hypocritical liberal, King wants to get free taxation by having his primary residence in a tax-free state (Florida). He has a Prius which he crowed about in the newspaper and was “filling it up” at the city government plug-in which was free. Just what you’d expect from a liberal - let somebody else pay his bills even though he’s worth gazillions of dollars.

“The Stand” is a good book but listen to the “Gunslinger” series on CD.

BUT, don’t ever think that Stephen King is anything other than a flaming hypocritical Liberal. Good author though.

That would be Mother Abigail. There is a FReeper here by that name, and also a FReeper named Randall Flagg. Seeing thier names on posts used to tickle me to death.

It’s wonderful book that I’ve read several times, and have the abridged copy, as well.

But, don’t delude yourself that Stephan King is a “garden variety liberal”. He’s as far left as they come.

In fact, not only had I read every book of his since “Carrie”, but I read the first four Gunslinger books when I found out just what a flaming lib he is, and haven’t read him since.

I’ve read just about every book King has written. Two things always stick out about him. One is that anybody who owns a gun in his books is a pyscho gun nut, and every religious person (except for the woman you’re talking about) is just a nut. I would venture to say that Mother Abigail was more “spiritual” than religous. Take a close look at the good guys and the bad guys in the book. See if you think that would be how things would really be broken up. Having said that, I’ve read the book three or four times including the unabridged edition. It’s my second favorite book behind Atlas Shrugged.

“The Stand” is King’s best book, IMO. The miniseries came out a week before my first date with the wonderful man who became my husband——over dinner, we found out we’d both enjoyed it.

I read most of King’s books, and since then, his liberalism has become toxic; he’s eaten up with it. Now he can be counted on to go on bitter anti-conservative, pro-Obama rants at least once in every new novel.

“The Stand” is a great story! After you’ve finished the book, try to find the Mini-series on DVD from your library, or Netflix. It stars Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald, and Ruby Dee plays Mother Abigail. It was a pretty good adaptation.
