I'm bad with user names, and forgive me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember you being chief among these people that were certain Palin was running and unable to accept that she wasn't.

You are wrong.

Proof is that Palin announced on October 5, 2011 that she would not run for the nomination.

On October 2, I posted

Sarah Palin in "The Undecided," or, Only Her Halibut Knows for Sure

and on October 5, I was at work, but FReepmailed nathan_bedford and asked him to post the following for me:

Sarah Ringbearer, or, A Gift From Frodo

With that last one in mind, it is obvious that some are trying to proceed with The Scouring of The Shire: but Romney/Sharkey, and various Shirriffs/Ted Sandyman types, even here on FR, are making it more difficult.

Whether her motives were noble or just an effort to stay in the spotlight, I don't know. But the impact of her delayed decision did conservatives no favors.

Read my piece Only Her Halibut Knows For Sure; and, after that, the legendary Mrs. Whiskers pointed out an interview Palin had on TV (maybe on Hannity? -- I referred to it in regular posts when it happened) that Palin looked literally shaken -- as though she had received credible bodily threats to her or her family; or maybe it was the rumours of the one-night stand with the U of Michigan basketball player, with promises of further similar tales to be promulgated. Mrs. Whisk. is of the opinion that Palin was literally threatened, in no uncertain terms, in ways she was unprepared to deal with, and decided to fold. And having been married to my wife for so long (decades and decades), I have learned to trust her intuition and feel for interpersonal motivations. Your mileage may vary.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

THAT was my strong sense at the time, as well.

Thanks to Mrs W for the confirmation.

Palin was not threatened out of running for President. This is just the stuff of conspiracy theories used to explain political events that don't fit into the world view of true believers. Does she get threats? All the time. Does near every public official/influential figure? All the time. Does anyone really not run for President because of threats? Pretty much no. Palin is a very determined person when she wants to be, if someone had really tried to strong arm her like that I'd bet Palin would have done just the opposite.

It is far more likely Sarah looked shaken/upset because she knew she was letting down a lot of hard core supporters that had believed all along that she was running for President. She was delivering some very bad news that was going to upset a lot of people, and at the same time confirming the beliefs of all those that said for months that she wasn't running (which only served to cause more hurt for her supporters).

I looked shaken too when, after hiding it for awhile, I finally had to deliver a bad report card to my parents whom were led to believe I was getting good grades. Obviously it is not an easy thing to do.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

Oh well, cheers to you anyway.
