Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney are likely to meet in early May to discuss a Santorum endorsement, his role as a Romney surrogate and conservative policy issues, CNN has learned.
John Brabender, a senior strategist for the Santorum campaign, told CNN that Santorum's goal is to have a policy-oriented session in which he tries to find a "comfort level" about the role "social conservatives, tea party activists and blue collar Republicans will play in the campaign and in the Romney administration." Even so, he said, "we are not walking in there with a litmus test. This is meant to be a candid conversation."
The session will not be "a meeting to endorse (but) a meeting to talk about the endorsement and other maters," Brabender said. Senior aides tell CNN that eventually Santorum will endorse Mitt Romney, and

Rick ready to take one for the team.
Rick was taking ‘one for the team’ a long time ago. Too bad he couldn’t take one for America.
Unlike Newt Rick has leverage.
You do realize that Gingrich will endorse Mittens at some point. The real question is whether you’ll have the courage to come running breathlessly to tell us about it.
The only thing Santorum is trying to leverage is Myth paying off his debt.
Unlike Rick, Newt has principles and courage...
so Rick is going to sell out the Americans who voted for him...
*snort*
The sniping continues.
The sniping of conservatives by conservatives against conservatives continues on here on FR, unfazed by the looming ugliness of a Romney nomination.
It’s the same sniping that practically guaranteed that the 6.5 million non-Romney voters in the Republican Primaries (as of April 10) were easily out-voted by the 5.5 million Romney voters.
It’s both bogus and sad.
Santorum should release his votes to Newt.
Is that possible?
Rick ready to take one for the team.
Something tells me Rick will come out of his meeting with Romney with his bills paid, his future in the party assured, all oiled up and ready to take one for the team once again...
It is pathetic that some view that as some sort of betrayal.
Rick will probably tell Mitt the harsh truth about how the base is not embracing him. But it sounds like Rick is folding tent.
I’m cynical. So maybe Rick just wants to speed up the end of the GOP. Since he could not beat Romney no matter what he did. It is a thought.
I feel the same with Bachmann and Cain. They are left in a pile of crap and will do just enough to appease the establishment. Knowing full well the GOP is heading in the direction of a showdown in Tampa. I hope.
That's a bodily function sound, and you shouldn't respond to posts with bodily functions sounds... :)
It is pathetic that some view that as some sort of betrayal.
People around here accuse me of being naive constantly. If you really think that Santorum will have any success in changing romney's positions OR that Romney will honor any promise he makes to Santorum - or any conservative - IF he's elected, You are MORE naive than I am.
It’s gotta make Rick’s skin crawl as much as it does mine.
Either the Republican party will change to a more conservative direction or, IMHO, it’s days are numbered.
Politics is a real ugly business.
As I’ve posted elsewhere, IMHO, whether Mittens wins or loses (however that turns out), he AND the Republican party are going to look very, very bad the next few years in the eyes of anyone who’s tired of the mess we call the Feral government.
Mittens will either be the biggest political loser ever or the man driving when the wheels come off the world economy.
Facepalm.
But on a more positive note, it gives me great confidence that the Republican party will be replaced by a real conservative party.
The real question is whether youll have the courage to come running breathlessly to tell us about it.

Don’t understand- why is that a question?
You’re lucky you weren’t here for my direct response.
Every once in awhile, when it serves their purposes, they show up on the battlefield for PR effect. But meanwhile, they're selling you out behind the scenes for money, titles, and power.
The sooner folks quit listening to them the sooner we can raise up a principled, practical alternative.
