...and right right do we have as US Citizens to claim to be the representative of all three?
The point I made was the arrogance of claiming to be American - a lazy term nonetheless...when people refer to themselves as such - they take away the true meaning of saying - US Citizen - which is far better and unifying...
I understood you. No offense intended, I simply did not/do not agree with you.
Dear friend, who said the term “American” represents all three Americas? And please note, The United States of America is the only country in North, Central, or South America that has America in its name. That may be much of the reason we are called Americans.
Yes, come to think of it. Very few of the opposite.
I am going to take off a little early today and go buy another sidearm - just to make me feel better. I need some more ammo anyway.
I do get your point, but I believe that’s an innaccurate use of the word.

The thing is everyone the world over knows what is meant when someone says they are American. If a European is going to come to the USA, they say, "I am going to America". There is only one United States of America. No one says they are going to America if they are headed to Brazil or Canada, or Argentina, they say, "I am going to Brazil, or Canada or Argentina, etc". There is no United states of South America or North America. Only the USA and everyone knows it. There is nothing arrogant about it, it is simply the truth.
...the truth you guys propose and being academically correct are two different things.
Have you ever asked other citizens of other nations in Central and South America - they say the same thing as I have stated.
Apparently - since you guys want to chime in to discuss this topic - which has already been discussed throughout academia - it’s comes down to what one knows about others opinion.
Only US Citizens understand the term America...yes the republic is called the United States of America — but to claim we represent the whole of the three is arrogance and laziness.
I base my point on established works and publications - not my general opinion as I think it is.
