If go you by the SNL cast from 1985-1991, you can add Robert Downey Jr. to the list as well. He's another SNL cast member from that era who apparently describes his politics as conservative now (and like the first 3 on the list, was a liberal at the time)
I agree it is a strange coincidence that SNL from that era produced so many future conservatives. Phil Hartman's dead, but where are Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Kevin Nealon, Joan Cusack, Anthony Michael Hall, Randy Quaid, Terry Sweeney, Nora Dunn, Jan Hooks, A. Whitney Brown, and Don Novello on the political spectrum today? It seems we could reunite the SNL cast c. 1990 and have a Conservative All-Stars SNL special!
(And looking back, I love Lovitz's Dukakis impersonation, though I'm too young to really remember the 1988 election much)
I think that Joan Cusack and A. Whitney Brown are really lefty; don’t know about the other castmembers about whom you were wondering.
Actually I thoght A Whitney Brown was conservative, but nonetheless, he was NOT funny either. I could never figure why Dennis Miller always had him as the guest editorialist.
My guess is Kevin Nealon (Catholic) is conservative on some issues, but he’s a PETA nut. Norm McDonald is vehemently pro-life, but may be liberal on other issues.
Other SNL members politics that I know of: Dan Aykroyd-republican. John Belushi-big lib. Chevy Chase-ultra-lefty. Julia Sweeney-atheist, so I’m guessing lib.Julia Dreyfus-lib. Tina Fey “claimed” to be a republican, but I seriously doubt it. Al Franken-guess what. Phil Hartman-strong Catholic, but guess he was a democrat.
