A teacher at a Virginia vocational school has been charged with terrifying a dozen students by lining them up against a classroom wall and firing a starter pistol at them execution-style.
Manuael Earnest Dillow, 60, was charged last week with 12 felony counts of brandishing a firearm on school property following the April 4 incident at the William H. Neff Center, a career and technical school, in Abingdon, Va.
Dillow allegedly lined up the students near a garage door of the schools welding shop and pulled from the waistband of his pants a black blank-firing handgun, that according to police looked like a real gun.
He then shot the gun between four and ten times in the direction of the students. The sound of the gunshots were similar to that of a firearm that fires a projectile, thus placing the students in fear, Washington County, Va., Sheriff Fred Newman said in a statement.

They left a prop bullet in the gun that the blank forced out the barrel and into Brandon. Such a horrific death. Still miss seeing him on the screen. Would have been a great member of The Expendables team.
I forgot the name until I looked it up, but remember it happening. Actor Jon Hexum put a pistol to his temple that still had a blank loaded in it, and pulled the trigger. Injuries from that led to his death soon after.
A revolver such as a Taurus Eight revolver 22 can fire 8.
I was commenting on 10 shots, jokingly, poorly.
Rather wide range of estimates, methinks.
Sure it wasn't between eleven and three? Eight and two? Five and nine?
Must be something about four and ten the author wanted to get in there.
Wonder what it could be.
“A blank pistol killed Brandon Lee”.
It was a real handgun that was loaded with blanks that killed Lee. Starter “pistols”, like those used to start track races are usually specially made to not have an opening in the barrel to prevent any projectile from being accidentally launched by the blank charge, and they are usually “revolvers” and not pistols.

Hold my beer..
I didn’t realize Brandon’s death involved so much stupidity.
He’s lucky none of the students were carrying.
I was watching some UK movie about a soap box derby. The constable was quite upset with the sponsor having, and using, a starter pistol for the race.
why do starter pistols have sights?
idiot.
Blanks kill too.

I stand corrected.
But any device that uses gunpowder is potentially dangerous, since it uses shock force to produce its sound (would you put your ear to the side of a real starters’ pistol?).
Just sayin...
My 9mm HK P30 can fire 15 from the magazine + one in the pipe. 16-shots before reload ... and I carry an extra magazine.
10 ain’t that many.

He must have been teaching the history of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and decided to add a blank-firing pistol to the lesson in order for it really have the material stick in their minds for the rest of their lives.
Im more surprised not one of you has said if it was your child, you would give the teacher “special”firing range lessons. What happened to you guys, get newtered?
My older brother had one of those starter’s pistols when I was about 12. In fact, my buddy and I went to the sporting goods store and bought it for him with money he gave us! Lazy sucker. They sold it and the ‘ammo’ to us, no problem. Things were a touch looser back in the 50s.
Anyway, he let us play with it whenever we wanted as long as we bought him more ‘acorns.’
We noticed an angled port in the top of the gun where the flash came out, so we went in the attic and took some small screws with us. I stuck one in the port, pointed it down so the port was aimed at a bulb about 25 feet away. I fired. No lie, on the first shot the screw hit the bulb and blew it away. Biggest surprise on my young life.
I don’t know if it would cause much damage to a person (other than their eye), but that light bulb were daid!
He gave the students a really good scare and did not injure them. Okay, some of them might have had their poor, wittle egos bruised and had ringing of the ears but that’s about it.
I’d like to hear from the teacher why he did it. If I was in his shoes I would have taught them that mass shootings, in war or in a Luby’s cafeteria, can occur anywhere at any time and this is the reason why we have the 2nd Amendment and why people should always carry concealed. And when they reach the age to purchase and carry a firearm they should do so but only after going through a course that teaches the rules of firearms safety, the law on self defense with a firearm, human factors related to various combat situations, etc. They should teach those things in all schools.
How many of them will forget about this incident?
Or kill yourself. Some moron actor shot himself suicide style with a pistol loaded with blanks. Turned out he wasn't acting. Oops.
Why do they swab the site where they're going to give you a lethal injection?
I would love to hear his side of this story. It is possible that he is a complete dumbass, but remember, this is an AP story, so I suspect that the spin on it is near escape velocity.
Got to admit. . .as an Adjunct at a college, I wonder too. . . .
